Best Steakhouse in L.A. Area!?

Welp, my dad's 70th b-day is coming up and I'd like to take him to nice place where he and my mom can get some good seafood and I can get a good cut of meat. I've been to Morton's (in Vegas) and that was pretty good. Been to Lawry's also and it's very good but not dying to go back. Dukes in Malibu was really nice and I like the formal\casual atmosphere but the food is too small. I'd prefer not to go to a place where I need to dress too formal to not feel out of place...but I will if I have to to get good grub. Never been to Ruth's Cris, Fleming's or Mastro's. Any comments on those places or any other places to consider?

Re: Best Steakhouse in L.A. Area!?

Robin's BBQ in Pasadena is a great place to go, but I'm not sure if they have seafood though. They have a plate called the garbage can lid. It's actually served on a metal garbage can lid and includes: 1 whole chicken, hot links, rack of beef ribs, rack of baby back ribs and tri tip. Not bad for $26. I have yet to meet someone who can finish it.

The atmosphere is very casual, we go there all the time for lunch and dinner when we are working late, and we usually are filthy from working out in the field. They treat us with the up most respect each time.

is Hungry hunter still around? They use to make good prime rib.

Why not cook for them? Sometimes the best steak is the one you cook yourself outdoors. Go to Stater bros, and marinate some, BBQ.

Claim Jumper makes decent steaks.

Re: Best Steakhouse in L.A. Area!?

Flemings is the best so far for me. The only thing about them is that everything is extra. Can't say anything bad about the place the stakes are very good. A bit on the expensive side, but I'm your dad is worth it. Casual attire is ok.

Charthouse in Malibu is another good place to eat. Stake is good a little cheaper than Flemings. Casual attire is ok

Re: Best Steakhouse in L.A. Area!?

been to mortons and ruth's cris, and am going to flemings on saturday with the girlfriend. mortons is the best so far, but others have told me flemmings is better. i was recommended ruth's cris, but i absolutley hated it. it might have just been a one time experience there, but the food was never cooked right out of 8 of us, and the only thing i liked was the mash. if you like mortons, youll be dissapointed by ruths. try flemmings man.

Ruth's Chris in Old Town Pasadena has been excellent every time I've been there.Last month we went to The Arroyo Chop House just off of Caifornia St and it was one of the best meals ever.I would highly recommend either of these.Warning dinner for four with a couple of drinks could almost buy you a VK PRO from Stillen

Re: Best Steakhouse in L.A. Area!?

There's LA Prime on the 34th floor of the Bonaventure Hotel in downtown. I've heard from friends that steaks there are good. A nice view of the city and a revolving lounge.

I personally like Lucille's BBQ in Brea. New Orleans style cuisine. I've had several different BBQ beef plates and love them all. Good portions. About $15-$25 per plate. I know there's a few around LA, but that's the only one I've been to. Very casual. Fridays and Saturdays they have live music.

Re: Best Steakhouse in L.A. Area!?

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. Man, thinking about these places is making me hungry. Ah, Northwoods Inn...great cheese bread and salads. Haven't been to Chart House since I was youngster trying to impress my date. Didn't know what good food was back then. I think we're gonna have to take a visit to Fleming's.

Excellent choice you will not be sorry going to Fleming's. Stake is not only mouth watering but will also melt in your mouth. Onion rings are good as well might want to order this for an appetizer. There is a new Fleming's that opened up at the Victoria Gardens. That might be closer to you than the one in Torrance.

Re: Best Steakhouse in L.A. Area!?

Now this is a thread that one can really appreciate..I'm going to have to try out some of these places. I can tell you that in Anaheim, there are a few steak houses in the disney area that are all great (Mortons, Ruths, and one in the Marriot that i cant recall the name of)..Also, one local steakhouse that my fiance and I frequent is called Stubericks. Its located in downtown Fullerton and they have truley great steaks in a casual setting. They have small bands perform after 9ish on the weekends if you wanted that kind of place. Always a great time...
