Test Drove a New Tundra (kinda long)
So I test drove a new Tundra a couple of days ago. Why? Curiosity!
Just before I got my Titan back in March, the rear end of my Dodge Ram came apart when I was driving back from Daytona’s Bike Week. Being that would have been the third rear end that I would have put in an American Vehicle in the past three years, I made up my mind that day that I was done with American cars.
My interest in Titans actually came by mistake. The day after my trip I was driving this busted rear end vehicle around looking for a new truck and naturally I look towards Toyota for two reasons. Their reputation for quality and the fact that they had been boasting about those damn Tundra’s since the Super Bowl! Well needless to so say, the dealerships didn’t have the Crew Max Tundra’s on the lots yet and I had my mind made up that I was getting a truck that day. To make a long story short, I ended up at the used car end of a Chevy dealership where I test drove my first Titan. I ended up buying a new from a local Nissan dealership (the Chevy guys wanted just as much for a used one) and I have been happy ever since.
Now back to the topic at hand.
I test drove a brand new 07 Crew Max fully Loaded Limited with the off-road package. It had an aftermarket Borla Exhaust system that the salesman told me was FACTORY PORT installed (Whatever that means). First impression was that the truck seemed a lot heavier than the Titan and not as sporty or agile. I love the more responsive steering in the Titan and the Tundra felt a little too soft in comparison. The Tundra was like a small RV in the inside! I still can’t figure out how they got that much space in that thing. I got on the gas pretty good a couple of times between red lights and it was not as quick as the Titan either. But after getting it on the highway third and fourth gears were a beast. The faster you go it seems the faster the Tundra wanted to go. There was a little more Body role around corners but like I said, it seemed a bit heavier. The biggest thing that I didn’t like about the Tundra was the amount of hood that you would see from the driver’s seat. I felt like it was taking a full two to three feet of road away from view compared to the Titan.
All in all I think that the Tundra was a nice truck. At the same time, I’m glad that they didn’t have any on the lot back that day in March and I was able to keep my options open for the Titan. I’ve own one other Nissan (1990 300ZX) years ago and to this date it has been my favorite car that I have ever owned. After driving my truck for the first time it was a reminder of how much I really liked Nissan products. In closing, curiosity didn’t kill this cat, just made me appreciate my truck even more.
