My wife doesnt drive standard so Is it worth it to get the CVT transmission?
Whats the difference between CVT and regular Auto?
Any imput would be helpfull. IF you know of another vehicle around 15-17k price thats worth looking and can seat 4 adults and carry a stroller on the back. ?
The new Scion Xb can do everything you want. A big plus is it has the Tc engine in it now and has a larger rear "trunk" area. Another thing, I'm 6'2" and I can sit in the back seat very comfortably!
As far as the CVT, from what I understand, it relies on centrufugal force. as the rpm/torque multiplies it keeps the engine at a consistant speed depending on driver input. For example, if you stomp on it, it will stay at redline while your speed increases, thus staying at the peak of the power band. No more shifting and waiting for the engine speed to catch up between shifts. Down sides I see, the weird feeling of the car not shifting, more speeding tickets due to the driver not being used to the tranny, and it's a relatively new thing to mass production.
I would be weary about it for a few years. The last thing I would want is to be a guinea pig for new technology until all the bugs are worked out. I'm not saying they're not reliable, I have no idea, but just wouldn't take the chance.

i forgot about the scion so Ill go check it out. Regarding the CVT Vshort from CT says that nissan had CVT for the last 6 yrs in other vehicles Like murano and Altimas. So is not new ..

I'm not sure about the last 6 years. But I know the technology has only been around for the last few. If I'm not mistaken, I believe Audi was the first to try it in their cars.

CVT is pretty nice, especially for 4 cylinder FWD cars. Comparing the Altima against the Camry, you don't get that front end rise and dive during shift points, less jerky. There is a decent gas mileage gain with CVT as well. It does take some getting used to because you don't think the car is getting up to speed as quick, but that is not the case. The other advantage is for long distance travel that you are running lower RPM's which makes the ride quieter. I drove an CVT Altima as a rental and found the engine at 1400 RPM on highway speeds, with plenty of power on reserve.

Thanks guys for the input I research a bit more and I think im we like the Versa if it feels good after the testdrive we will probably trade in my 2004 RX8. I owe $14,500 and it only has around 19k So I should be able to get it paid off and at least 1-2 thousand more. It has 20" wheels, all leather fully loaded, chrome accents and is in real good conditions.
So hopefully by the weekend Ill have another nissan on the garage.

Consider the Sentra as well. Those two cars are so close.
The Versa and Sentra have similar fuel economy, 27/33 vs 25/33 respectively.
The Versa is 122hp/127 vs 140hp/147ftlb of the Sentra.
The Versa weighs in at 2758 lbs vs. 2979 lbs, or 0.43 hp/lb vs 0.46 hp/lb
Front head room is 40.6" on both models.
Rear head room is 38.3" for the Versa and 37.3 for the Sentra.
Leg room is 41.4" for the Versa and 42.4" for the Sentra.
Hip room is 48.8" for the Versa and 54.1" for the Sentra.
Shoulder room is 53.5" for the Versa and 56.9" for the Sentra.

man the sentra does looks bigger on the stats you posted. I know that price different is around $1000-$2000 ill check it out. What about cargo do you know if the truck is big. Thats the reason Im leaning more on the Versa the Hatch back has plenty of room back there
Sentra trunk is pretty sizable. I believe the back seats fold down as well.

Either the Sentra or Versa is a good bet. The CVT is something that has been around for a long time, many have tried it and failed. Nissan seems to be among the few that can get it to work.
It works so well that Dodge decided to use it in the Dodge caliber. And yes it has been around since 2003, in Nissan Murano
My sister has one. She loves it, it is insanely good on gas, it was cheap, and it has side impact airbags standard. Her car has the CVT, its kinda weird feeling, but it makes the little motor seem a lot bigger....
ok guys I found the versa Im going to buy. Is a saphire blue, spoiler and convinience package with cvt $16,900 + tt&l. Can someone tell me what my payment are going to be 0 down and no trade in ? either 4, 5, or 6 years
