Sad Day for Firefighters and Titan owners

It's a sad day for south Florida Firefighters who lost a brother on Saturday morning. Captain Garcia who drove a Titan was struck and killed by a Honda Civic driven by a 17 year old girl who ran a stop sign around 1am. Unfortuntely Garcia wasn't wearing his seatbelt and was ejected from his truck. For video of the accident and the story click on the link.

Re: Sad Day for Firefighters and Titan owners

Very unfortunate.

However, I often wonder why people who are in a position of public safety, and have probably seen many wrecks where seatbelts could have saved lives, why they ignore the law and don't buckle up...?

That is a good question...I'm sure we have all been guilty of this at one time or another in our life....Too late, just pray for the family now.....

Re: Sad Day for Firefighters and Titan owners

I read the article, i missed the part where he was driving a titan...It says grey nissan pich up truck...I would have thought a little car hitting a Titan would not have thrown him out.....Maybe Im wrong....I could see it happening maybe to a smaller nissan truck though for sure.

I agree, that is amazing the damage the civic produced on the Titan. I wouldnt have guessed it would be so great. My thoughts are with the family.

That civic had to be going really fast atleast 50mph. Prayers go out to family and friends.

Re: Sad Day for Firefighters and Titan owners

It is always hard to lose a fellow firefighter. I did not even hear about the Titan accident/death. I am also keeping the Califorina firefighters in my prayers too. I have lost too many people in accidents. I ask all of the TT people to please drive safely and to wear your seatbelts please.

Pure speculation, no one knows who was doing what speed except the authorities. No need to say anyone is at fault now, just a tragedy that happened and all the fault in the world will not change it.

Watch the video. It is...was...a Titan.

RIP. <--to the firefighter, not the truck.

Re: Sad Day for Firefighters and Titan owners

That certainly looked survivable if he hadn't been ejected. What a shame.

Re: Sad Day for Firefighters and Titan owners

Doesn't matter the profession( on how much sympathy he should get) the guy could of been on his way back from scoring some crack or a hooker). Not saying that he was, but the profession shouldn't make you feel more sorry for him unless it was in the line of duty. It looks like it was a freak accident that just happened to a firefighter/ Titan owner. Looks like they are still waiting on some blood work to come back. If he was coming back from a party, hope the guy wasn't drinking and driving. Wouldn't matter if the ggirl ran a stop sign or not. Hate the fact that a seat belt could of prevented his death. Kinda like the Doctors and Nurses that take care of Cancer patients but smoke. God Bless him and his family and also the Girl and her family. I'm sure she will have remorse and physical injuries to. It goes to show you never know when it's your time to go.

Re: Sad Day for Firefighters and Titan owners

God speed, Captain Garcia. Bless the hearts of those left behind. Anyone in the rescue biz has seen the heartaches caused by not using seatbelts. Some of us refuse to use them. I guess for the same reasons that some cardiologists smoke. When I drive my two favorite trucks, the Titan or the E-One Hurricane (fire engine), neither go into gear unless everyone is belted in. As my personal testomonial: In 23 years of being a firefighter, I have never unbuckled a dead body.
