Please tell me someone didn't try to load their golf cart on their truck???? Maybe i misread that, but from what i can tell someone wasnt exactly using their head by loading a tailgate down with a golf cart!!!!!

Why not? We do that all the time here. No worries with any truck I have done it with for 10 years. Even this weak old little bitty Nissan.....LOL

Re: One Reason Not To Buy A Tundra

I guess i just wouldnt trust my tailgate with a couple hundred pounds on it. My tailgate has come undone with nothing on it, so i could only imagine a golf cart.

you don't tailgate over there? When we sit around drinking adult soda after work there can be in excess of 700 pounds on my tailgate alone. I think they have found yet another fatal flaw in the design of that truck. I am biased. i think they are uglier than a week dead pig and highly over hyped, but then again I am a Titan owner and subject to fits of divine wisdom. LOL

Re: One Reason Not To Buy A Tundra

Heck, I've hauled many different four wheelers of various sizes, all with the rear wheels positioned on the tailgate with no problems. Both in my Titan and my S-10, never had any problems. And a golf cart, come on, those things are light compared to alot of things I've seen on tailgates.

One other thing........that response sounds about par industry wide for any complaint like that. Always remember the squeaky wheel gets the oil when dealing with the dealer or OEM. If you raise enough stink they will usually fold like a lawn chair eventually.

Re: One Reason Not To Buy A Tundra

I guess it depends on where you're from. In Hawaii, loading up your tailgate is no biggy. Drive to the beach, put the tailgate down, pop open a beer and sit on the tailgate with a couple of friends. We're not talking small guys either. We got some big boys here. I've easily had over 600 lbs on the tailgate of my old 2wd Nissan hardbody.

Re: One Reason Not To Buy A Tundra

The problem with mine is the bolt screwed into my tailgate backs itself out over time, and without warning it drops on me. Must be all that torque???? LOL

Re: One Reason Not To Buy A Tundra

The picture of the white Tundra with a broken tailgate was from a member of a Tundra forum I that I help moderate.
The owners teenage daughter was driving the truck on a rough road unsupervised.
While she claims that she was not driving fast and that the golf cart wasn't bouncing on the gate, the owner has his doubts.
Other people have reported similar problems. Contrary to what was said in the link, Toyota has said that they will replace failed tail gates, no questions asked.
I put 5-600 lbs on my tail gate several times a week and have had no problems yet, but I haven't driven around on the ranch with that much weight on the tail gate, nor do I plan to.

Glad you could clear that up skyhammer, but that tailgate should handle it either way. Or it wasn't designed properly.
