A good friend was going to trash the car because they rather buy a brand new one instead of fixing it. Its a 94 Geo Metro hatch back. It has an I-3 (yes, an inline 3 cylinder engine) that makes 55hp and its a 5 speed manual. Heres the good part. It gets 50 mpg and can go 480-500 miles on its 10 gallon tank. All it needs majorly is a clutch job and a new back windshield. I'm replacing the accesory belts, battery, and putting some new tires on the thing. I'm sooo happy cause now I can use my truck as a joy ride instead of a gas guzzling commuter! Just wanted to share.
My buddies and I used to go off-roading in his metro. If it ever got high centered (which it frequently did) all you had to do was get out and lift up on the back end.

congrats man, gas is a killer and its only going to get worse... i'll be buying a bike in the coming years and using the titan as i continue to build it as my desert machine!
Funny that you mentioned it. It has the same power to weight ratio as an older Civic coupe or Sedan. Kind of sounds stupid but the car weighs 1400lbs with no driver. It came out to 26 or 27lbs per 1 HP. Zero to sixty is shy of 10 seconds which is faster than my 4X4 92 4runner V6 with its blazing 0 to 60 time of 13 seconds....damn!

Yup, your right, no point in spending that money on gas, if you can spend it on mods.
Reminds me of when I bought "Dollar Car" back in '94. A family friend had a 79 Honda Accord hatchback that she had purchased for only a dollar from one of her friends, hence the name. She drove it for awhile before getting a new car, and I generously gave her 20 times what she paid for it. It had 175K miles, the passenger door wouldn't close all the way and was wired shut, a wicked steering wheel shake under braking, a tranny with bad synchros, and the radiator was filled with a rust colored gelatinous goo. I drove that thing as a spare beater car for about a year before selling it to someone else, recouping my original $20 investment.

More like bucket of the decade, but it always started and never left me stranded anywhere.

Suzuki makes a good engine. They were'nt smooth or powerfull, but ran forever and sipped gas. If you can find a 4 cyl 16valve Swift motor, it will drop right in, suckers moved, and still got mid 40s on gas. MotorTrend drove a modified Swift in the mid 90s, it was very quick, beat the Ferraris on the skid pad and handling and was getting around 46mpg.
