Help out a fellow American Soldier

When you are making out your Christmas card list this year, please
include one addressed to the following:

A Recovering American soldier
c/o Walter Reed Army Medical Center
6900 Georgia Avenue NW
Washington, D.C. 20307-5001

If you approve of the idea, please pass it on to your e-mail list. Every little bit we can help out means so much to these guys. If you want to take it a step further, I am trying to work out a deal with an ebay seller who has cheap MP3 players (1gb units around $15 a piece including shippng). I have set aside $150 this year for this cause. I can give you a link to the auction if you are interested in doing something similar on your own. Ask your friends or family to donate $15 and send an mp3 player loaded with some tunes along with that christmas card. We have so much to be thankful to these soldiers for, their sacrifice of time away from family to the ultimate one of their life. Let's not forget them. And please do send this to all the people you know, not the part of the MP3 player necessarily, but that of the card. Thanks guys and gals!

I am in no way asking anyone for money or attempting to raise it. Should anyone want to do something similar, I am only saying I can offer to give you the auction info so you could do something on your own accord. Someone was kind enough to enlighten me to our forum policies and I want to make sure I don't cross any lines. Mods, please let me know if I need to edit this thread any further.

Re: Help out a fellow American Soldier

FYI that address and information is incorrect. Walter Reed will not accept un-addressed packages for security reasons.

If you wish to send something it must be sent through the American Red Cross:

American Red Cross
Walter Reed Army Medical Center
6900 Georgia Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20307-5000

More details can be found here:

holmes.....i couldnt help but tear up reading your post. dude you have a huge heart, and being a recently discharged vet, i melted when i read your post. these guys and gals are VOLUNTEERING to defend our freedoms. least we can do is send a card. i as well ask the mods, or whomever this may have offended to understand holmes' purpose in posting his idea and his purpose in doing so. hes a swell guy trying to make a swell effort, and encouraging others to do the same thing. thats all. although, im sure everyone understands. great idea holmes, and im forwarding an email to everyone at work. i salute you, and encourage everyone else to perhaps spread a little more cheer to those who need it this year.

Re: Help out a fellow American Soldier

That is an awesome idea but like Landshark said the hospital will not accept any packages unless they have an actual name on them. I heard that they also asked that people stop sending generic cards to the hospital because they are receiving so many that they just cant take anymore.

I'm all about supporting the troops, (my brother is in the Marines) however I dont want you guys to send stuff and have it get thrown out.

Re: Help out a fellow American Soldier

I guess maybe I haven't thought this through as well as I need to yet. I just thought they would take the packages, but I understand the reason not to fo security reasons. Does anyone have any info on what might be the proper channel to send these to or actually know of someone at Walter Reed who could distribute theses? Any help is much appreciated. I am going to do a little more research myself and I'll post if I find anything else out. Thanks in advance for your help guys. I really appreciate it!
