Re: anybody cut off there house phone for cell phones
Been without a "landline" for two years now. No problems. Cheaper. National cell plan. Plus I just don't give my number out when they ask for it. When they find out it's a cell, they usually don't want it anyway.
Re: anybody cut off there house phone for cell phones
Yes, killed the BellSouth service years ago. Went with Sprint because I get unlimited free incoming calls which seem to be the bulk of my calls. I can then decide when to call people back off hours when it's free to call.
Re: anybody cut off there house phone for cell phones
The only problem is 911 service. With a land line all you have to do is dial 911 and hang up the phone and they know where you are calling from. With a cell phone you have to tell where you are.
Re: anybody cut off there house phone for cell phones
If I cut my land line off i'd have to drive 10 miles down the road to use my cell phone.
I can't beleive in this day and age with all the modern technology we have that there are still parts of the country where you can't get cell service
I've even offered to have a tower put up on my property but so far no luck.

That's true. "Her" parents live on top of a mountain. In the valley on either side, great reception. On top of the mountain... DEAD! And we can SEE a cell tower from their living room window.... Deadzones are difficult to eliminate unless you have a satellite phone. The variations in the Earth's contours just wreaks havoc with the wave patterns......
Re: anybody cut off there house phone for cell phones
I moved the land line to Vonage about a year or so ago because I needed a way for the alarm system to dial out and my internet service is Comcast High Speed instead of Bell South DSL. I went with their cheap plan, and the bill with taxes is under $20/month. I currently have Vonage simultaneously dial my cell phone when the land line rings and if I lose my internet connection, all calls go to my cell phone automatically. So far so good, and sometimes the cell service isn't so good, so I end up using the Vonage line for phone calls anyway. My personal cell is AT&T and my work cell is Nextel, but the Vonage system still sounds better than both, even while downloading large files.
Re: anybody cut off there house phone for cell phones
I went with Vonage too $9.95 a month plus taxes for 100min. I only have the line for Fax's but it's avaliable for calls if needed.
Been using cells exclusivly for the last 6 months. Sure don't miss the damn "support your not so local law officer" calls.
Was going to cancel the $25 monthly Vonage when they offered the "Special non-advertised" rate. Worth checking into if you don't need more than 100 min.

I'm going to feel ancient by posting this, but here goes. I considered dumping a land line all together, but just couldn't let go of the silly thing. I then recently moved into a new house. Was going to do it then, but the alarm system needs something. So now, I just have the basic no frills land line for that. Runs about 11 bucks a month or something. I'm relieved not to have to let the land line go completely.

I don't think that is enirely true. My old blackberry has gps location on it as well as my wife's "newer" (8 months old) cell phone. We were told with this turned on, once a 911 call was placed, it would allow the operator to get a lock on your coordinates. I'm not verifying this, just what I was told. We have not had a land line in over 4 years now.

Silly boy... All you need is the cell module and you don't need a landline. I have ADT in my house with no landline. Works fine.
