Our family doctor hit a deer head on with his Indian, broke his wrist and got a little road rash. I've hit several dogs , a couple of them quite large, never went down. A guy on hwy 63 hit a deer with a Ninja.....he was fine, but pissed it trashed a brand new bike. I've had two ex Brother in laws go down, one rearended a car, result, road rash and a broken windsheild. the other hit gravel on a sharp corner at 65, result, broken knee cap and collar bone.....both are still riding.

I was not warned, I fell into it before your edit thank you very much...
I'm an avid motorcyclist, I have ridden for almost 20-years and I have to say, that was an upsetting video clip because not only the graphic display of death, but the trama the truck driver must have gone through once he realized what that was that... I won't go on, I'm trying to purge my visual memory.

Re: For those who own a motorcycle or are considering one..
On my FZ6 forum there was a vid of a guy riding and he squared up a large buck. Didnt even go down. Plastic flew everywhere though. It was pretty amazing that he didnt wash it out. I think he was doing 50 or so when he hit it.
I saw an awfull wreck last year.....guy hit a stop sign and decapitated him. Saw the helmet and his head roll across the road. I stopped the next day and prayed for him and his family. Saw another one on the interstate the other day. The guy was pretty ripped up when he finally came to a stop. it just makes me cringe to see that kind of stuff.
Re: For those who own a motorcycle or are considering one..
To anybody who may be disturbed about the video I posted: I apologize if it really bothered you. I wasn't really thinking about that particular possibility. In hindsight, I should have put a warning to the effect that it was graphic. I just posted it because I ran across it on youtube and it really hit me (I don't personally own a bike but I've ridden them in traffic) how easily one could be injured/killed on a bike. Just goes to show that whether you're on a bike or in a car, you need to be careful and watch out for yourself and others.
Re: For those who own a motorcycle or are considering one..
That vid was pretty bad, but at the same time it won't change my opinion to ride. I had a co-worker get F'd up this summer, he had been riding for 40+ yrs with no problem...them BAM...now he is gonna retire being paralyzed from the chest down. I was told by almost all I worked with to sell my bikes. Not gonna happen. It is something I understand everytime I throw a leg over the seat...today may be my last day....but it could be the same in a vehicle.
People are quick to say how dangerous bikes are, but people die in vehicles all the time to. There should be a post with a car accident, like the one in Eastern Canada ~ 7 high schoolers and their teacher all died when the van they were in went sideways on the icy roads and got T-boned by a semi ~ maybe we shouldn't drive vans now..............

Re: For those who own a motorcycle or are considering one..
My buddy hit a deer on his Ninja in october. He slid along the road for a while, then the tumbling bike ran him over. Broke his foot/ankle in 7 places, he now has a whole lot of metal in there and is using a walker while in physical therapy.
His only question: Will I be able to ride again by the time the snow melts?
Hey Quad, this happened between Rush and Lima, maybe you saw it in the paper.
Re: For those who own a motorcycle or are considering one..
As motorcycle riders we are well aware of the dangers when we ride. We get reminded on each road and intersection. Vids like that dont deter us from riding nor did it enlighten us to dangers we were unaware of.
Re: For those who own a motorcycle or are considering one..
Yeah, me and my friend were discussing the video. He rides and he says that while the video was pretty bad and did make him think twice, he said that he wouldn't give it up. Don't get me wrong, I love the feeling one gets when riding a bike as well and I'm certainly not against them. Even though common sense dictates that chances of injury/death are greater on a bike, I'm a young guy and I'd just never really thought about that before, I guess. Like I said before, it sobered me quite a bit...
You're certainly right on that people die plenty in car accidents. Its rare that I can go 1, 2, or 3 days without seeing a nasty car accident. There's no denying that motor vehicles, of any sort, are a rather dangerous part of modern life. Still, one can't help liking them. Anyway, again, if anybody was disturbed or offended, my apologies and just be careful out there.
Re: For those who own a motorcycle or are considering one..
Driving anything is the most dangerous thing we do on a daily basis. It's part of life. With the ever increasing amount of riders these days, motorcycle accidents will and are more common. Thanks to gas prices.

I feel if there were more bikes and less cars/trucks/etc. life would be safer on the streets/highway. You can't turn and talk to yr passenger(s), change CDs, text, make/answer phone calls, do yr f'n make up, etc on a bike. It is 'usually' pure concentration while riding.....especially with the front wheel pointed at the sky

Re: For those who own a motorcycle or are considering one..
I can imagine! Call me a wimp, but I've always been too scared to pop a wheelie on any bike, even bicycles ever since I tried one when I was little. I've always thought it was really cool though when someone could do that...

Wow, sorry to hear!
Well you are right Rush and Lima are very close to me. Strangly enough, my closest call to a deer was on 15A just south of Lima. I was north bound, wide open flat straight road, the field on the west side is much lower than the road height. I pulled out and passed a car, as I'm starting back into my lane I see something running across the field, I was not aware of the height difference between the road and the field, I thought it was a woodchuck and put it out of my mind. All of a sudden this deer jumps up onto the road next to me, seeing the bike right there scared the hell out of it, it slipped on the pavement and fell just behind the bike. The car I just passed drove right over the top of it...
Hope your friend has a complete recovery.

Totally agree.
I have always claimed, being a biker has made me a better car/truck driver. The things you learn on a bike to keep yourself alive are skill sets that just seem to carry over to anything I now operate.

Re: For those who own a motorcycle or are considering one..
Life is full of risks but the way I look at it, a big part of life is doing what you enjoy.
I've been riding all kinds of motorcycles for over 45 years and have had many crashes and more close calls. I consider myself an experienced and cautious rider but things still happen.
Two years ago a pickup truck went over a double line on a mountain road hit my motorcycle head on at a combined speed of over 100 MPH. It broke almost every bone on the left side of my body and tore a finger completely off. I was hospitalized for over a month and on disability for almost a year.
The bike was a BMW 1150R. The collision broke the bike in half and completely tore off the left cylinder.
The only regret I have is that now I'm down to only 11 bikes left.

Hell i started to shoulder check when I changed lanes running at the indoor track at my local gym. My workout buddy laughed her *** off cuz there was never a chance of someone being there...i told her it was a habit I never wanted to go away and if she rode she would understand
