Cordless impact wrench, anyone used one?

Been lookin into getting one. I've seen a few brands and the prices range from about $100 for the goodyear brand all the way to $500. I definitely want a decent amount of torque to break some bolts. I wish airtools were an option but livin in a condo complex the noise would be frowned upon. Appreciate any opinions.

Re: Cordless impact wrench, anyone used one?

I take a pair of 18V and a 14.4V Milwaukee cordless impacts with me when I go off roading. Great tools. The 18V can easily do most jobs, but the 14.4 is nice and compact. The 18V is good to 117 ft lbs of torque and the 18V is good to 240 ft lbs. Here's a couple of links to the ones I use:

snap on CT4850HO. its an 18v good battery life. havent had a problem busting any lugs and i usually use it a few days out of the week. i believe its 400 ftlbs and 2k blow per minute, looking at like $500 though. you get what you pay for ( my .2 ) only downside of this piece is the weight, w/ the battery its heavy as hell

Re: Cordless impact wrench, anyone used one?

The good battery impact wrenches have just enough torque to change lug nuts or to make you angry if you are trying to free a rusted shock bolt or something big like the big bolts soaked in lock tite that you need to remove to take off the front brake rotors on the Titan. Even the new 36V DeWalt's are rated at only 325 ft-lbs. For the same money, you can buy a 1200 ft-lb Ingersoll pneumatic. I can easily defeat any of the battery operated impact wrenches with a breaker bar and a short piece of pipe.

I have this one, and its really a nice tool to have. It puts off 180 lb. ft., which is plenty to change tires, and other stuff. Its been used on numerous lift installs in Houston, and really performs well.

my 18v gun has 400 ftlbs http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item....re&dir=catalog

the thread starters whole pickle is living in a condo complex with noise being an issue. yeah they are expensive but your buying convenience as well.
my ir titanium series can bust nuts torqued down to 1000 ft lbs in less than 6 seconds. but i sure dont see myself carrying a 50 gallon loud compressor with me everywhere ya know?

Re: Cordless impact wrench, anyone used one?

My buddy has a dewalt on 18v. Its pretty nice but there is defiantly times where we have to get out the breaker bar cause its not tough enough. Now my harbor freight special central pneumatic 628ft lb hasn't seen a bolt it couldn't break as of yet, when doing automotive work. But it is nice using the cordless when you don't feel like messing with the air tools.

Re: Cordless impact wrench, anyone used one?

I can change a flat tire on one of these with an 18V Dewalt in about 20 seconds (5 lugs) with someone else running the jack, I think they're great for that, but otherwise, like bestatchess said, you can get more torque with the breaker bar. Oh and I hear you about the complex, it sucks not being able to clang and bang at your own free will!!

Re: Cordless impact wrench, anyone used one?

Yea, if it were an option I'd definitely go air. I worked in a shop in my gollege days and air is defintely the way to go if its an option. As it is though, my neighbors are pretty cool about the noise I make. Its pretty quiet in our complex. They were very understanding when I busted out the sawzall and did the pinch weld mod. The damn thing echoed like crazy. I'd rather not push my luck with an compressor. Some day I'll get one. But I did see this dewalt. specs look pretty good.

Thanks for al the info.
