Re: Dont Buy SONY

I have six computers, and I've never had a hard drive fail this quick. With externals, I have 13 hard drives, and a couple of them are 6 yrs old, and have been up 24/7 with no failures. The only one to fail before was a POS Maxtor, used just as a secondary backup for photo files, and it was four years old when it went down. Three of the guys I know that fix computers regularly see hard drives 4 and 5 yrs old or older before they fail. All three said by far, the most failures they see are Maxtor, and its by a wide margin....turns out thats what is in the Sony. I may wait for a while and let her use my other laptop and get one of the new solid state hard drives. They had one a CES that was hooked up and running while in a running paint shaker and didn't skip a beat.

Use quality components and you shouldn't have many issues, the problem is the quality has gone down quite a bit, in many cases due to having to be RoHS compliant. Ugh...
Dell...well...I hate Dell. When you work with them every day you end up hating them. They've put out some major disasters. GX260 and GX270's come to mind with bulging capacitor problems...yikes. It wouldn't have been such a big deal if Dell didn't try charging $230 for a 4 year old motherboard...

I saw the solid state flash drives at COMDEX also and was pretty impressed. Its just a matter of time until all laptops will have these drives. When the cost comes down. The Mac Book Air offers it in 64 gig but it is over $1000 over the hard drive version.

LOL-LMAO - You're right but I've been supporting networks full of Dell ever since Compaq rolled belly over into HP. The GX's were a disaster but like anything new, they need to be out with a successful track record for a few years before considering for rollout IMO. Sticking with the full size mini-towers works just fine and I can usually get escalated up through 2nd tier Tech Support which always helps so I like working with them compared to most other options available. At home, I usually just replace failed parts from the local PC shops and they seem to do well.
