Dont Buy SONY

Don't buy the crap. I have a Sony Viao computer that is just about 3yrs old, the hard drive crashed and they are telling me recovery disks are not available. They want me to send it in to them for $300+. Don't buy a computer without disks period. Sony basically told be to get screwed. So if this is how someone who's spent $1400 on a tower is treated, how will they service any of thier products. I've had bugs with the past two camcorders, now switching to Canon, a 27" tv lasted 4 yrs, a 32XBR lasted only 6.

Be forwarned. Quality or customer service isn't a priorty at Sony at all.

I don't see why you need recovery disks. You should be able to just do a plain install of XP and then download the drivers for your component off their site. Actually, it's probably better to download the drivers beforehand and burn them to disk.

Look on ebay, they have recovery disks on there all the time!!

Oh, if you didn't know. PC hardware can fail anytime after the one yeear warranty is up, and sometimes before that. 3 years, you were doing good.

Most PC's do not come with recovery disks anymore. Good luck finding one that does. Many have a second partition on the hard drive that has the "recovery" data. Sometimes you can see it other times it is hidden. Your PC hard drive will crash, not when, will. Be prepared next time and have a external drive as your backup.

I have had a sony vaio laptop for the past 2 years and its been the best computer ive had. I havent had one single problem with it.

The last two Toshiba laptops I've bought this past year and my parents Toshiba came with them.

And I need a copy of XP Media Center, cant find that one either.

And its the wifes computer so its never seen porn, unlike my laptop.

My kids have a Sony Viao handed down, 6 yrs and still going.

Id say your doing really good if you can get a computer to last that long. It seems I have to upgrade at least every 2 years to keep up with the new stuff. I bought a DVD burner and try to keep most of my important files and pictures backedup up incase of a hard drive crash. If youre drive is still good, just reformat, although you will lose anything that was on your drive. Or you could buy a new harddrive, I just got a 300 gig for 59 bucks.

For pre-built computers the only way to go is Dell, IMO. I've never had a problem with either of the two Dell desktops or the two Dell laptops in our house. The only reason my desktop isn't currently a Dell is because I built my own about a year ago. The other computers I've built (back in 2001) are still going strong as well, just not used for gaming. Use quality components and you shouldn't have many issues, the problem is the quality has gone down quite a bit, in many cases due to having to be RoHS compliant. Ugh...

You should be able to buy an OS Reinstallation Disk from Sony for something like $30-$60 shipped. This will be the Windows Disk for the OS that came with the machine. Then using a working PC, download the NIC drivers and copy them to a disk then install them on the Sony. From there, just download the rest of the drivers using the link below and install them. This is common for most Consumer grade (non-Business) machines these days. It's easy enough to work around. HP and Gateway do the same thing. I recently had the harddrive die in my 6yr old Dell laptop and haven't bothered to order a new one yet but they are the easiest to order replacement parts for and repair.

yes your computer should come with the windows xp disk and other disks from sony. If you dont have it just go buy the windows xp pro and install it, down load the drivers and your good. I build my own computers, easier to upgrade and do as I wish with it.

I had a Sony Vaio computer for 6 years. I had some problems but I thought it was a good computer. I now have a Vaio laptop. So far, so good.
