Help with LCD Projection TV

This morning when my wife turned on the tv there was a big black splotch in the lower righthand corner. The tv is a Sony KDS-R50XBR1 rear projection LCD. It was working fine last night dont know what might have happend overnight?

You can still see the picture through the splotch but there is no color.

Does anyone know what this might be or have a fix. The tv is 2 month out of warranty.

Thanks
Frank

Re: Help with LCD Projection TV

It sounds like you have dead pixels. From what I have read, they can be repaired, but it is not cheap. One thing I read, the guy lightly flicked the screen with his finger, and it started working again!! (at you own risk)

Possibly a light going out.

Have a qualified repair person look at it.

Re: Help with LCD Projection TV

You may have some kind of artifacts on the reflecting lens, like dust.

The way the projections are made, the lens is open to the elements.

If it is dust, you should be able to open the casing and blow it off with compressed air. Also, if it is, then make yourself some homemade filters to go over the intake slits. I made mine with dryer sheets, but you can use pantyhose, too.

Re: Help with LCD Projection TV

I bought the tv 14 months ago at circuit city. The problem seams to be in the screen, not the light engine. The stain is still there when you turn the tv off. I dont think sony strikes again...I think my 2yr old strikes again.

Thanks
Frank

Re: Help with LCD Projection TV

I read something about this on the internet a while back. Do a google search and you'll find some fixes to try. It sounds like something may have gotten in between the screen layers.

^^^^ Most likely correct. Not an easy fix.

Re: Help with LCD Projection TV

There is some sort of liquid in the tv. What my daughter spilt is another question. the dark spot is getting lighter and some pixels are clearing up but still there.

Thanks
