Question Need tire suggestions for my Trans Am...

Okay here's the situation.

I have a 1978 Trans Am which I recently had the engine overhauled.

Edelbrock Performer dual plane intake
Holley 770 Carburetor
Comp cams
Hedman Headers
high flow cats
Dynomax mufflers
MSD Ignition
New wires

The result is beautiful!

Here's the unanticipated result. My BFG Radial T/A's on my stock rims no longer keep the vehicle planted. I can literally stomp on the gas and lose traction at all speeds up to 45 mph!

But I must say, leaving two burn marks for a long period of time is quite refreshing to the soul...

Anyone have recommendations? 225/70-15

Re: Need tire suggestions for my Trans Am...

i ran the Nitto dr's on my cobra and loved them. if you drive the car all the time though they will wear out quicker than a normal tire but i had them on for two summers and they were great. they were great at the track also, just heat them up a it and they stick great! and if all else fails go with a wider wheel and tire, my cobra had 275 width tires and they stuck pretty well

I used to run Goodyear Eagles on my old T/A, I think they might have been the RS-A's but I always used to like the Dunlop GT Qualifiers too.

A pinewood derby car? Wow-I haven't seen one of those in 35 years!

It looks awesome...

SO you're saying I need that much backspacing so my tires stick out a foot?
