I am sick of being laid off, it has been 5 weeks now and no work.
I have been looking at doing something else but not sure what, I am one of those people that dont know what they want to do. I am a carpenter right now, I have an associate degree in civil engineering, i like to do things hands on, mechanical, drive stuff, i can learn almost anything, but need to be paid decent, no $10 hr jobs. entertain me with some ideas.
Well if you are willing to go to a school for 2 years, or find a place willing to on the job train you for 3 years you can get a good job in aviation. I work on helicopters and I work 7 days on a d 7 days off, with 21 days vacation a year ( I work 5 months and one week a year ) and all the normal benefits. Starting pay is some where around 22 bucks a hour, but the scale goes up pretty fast from there. Most of the good paying jobs are on the gulf of mexico, Louisiana and Texas, air evac doesn't pay much, and they don't get any days off.
im with ya, im still working but my boss is a d__k and im ready for another company, also i think we are about to look in to moving to FL. im gonna check in to it when we go to OTV. im an electrician.
On the 25th i start school to be a heavy equipment operater/light mechanic, starting is bettween $18-22 dollars a hour full benefits 401K and all that stuff, possibly more depending on training. The union in california for a JourneyPerson is $32 a hours starting, But that even if you can get into the program

If you work in construction, stear clear of Fl. Both of my parents work in construction and it's dead right now. My mom works for Mercedes homes and so far, they've layed off a little over 60% of the employees in her division. My dad owns a block and concrete co and he's lucky to do a job a week, which is fine with him because he saved tons of money during the boom so he's happy with a little early retirement. lol. But anyways, Fl is completely dead. Mercedes is taking huge losses on all the property they bought and all the houses they already had built just to get whatever money they can out of them.

Haha they don't really care, my dad's enjoying the time off and they have no outgoing expences really. Their SRT 10 is payed off, their expedition is payed off, my mom's superduty has 3 months til it's paid off, they paid cash for their house when they built it 4 years ago, my dad's superduty is payed off, my titan is payed off, all my dad's play truck's are paid for, my dad's boat's are payed off, as well as his 4wheelers. My mom does work so we can get affordable health insurance, but my dad is loving the time off. It gives him time to go down to the keys to dive and go out to Texas to the mud nats., and enjoy all his toys that he didn't get to play with very much for the few years he worked 7 days a week.
