I think you need to do your own research. There are "agendas" on both side of this issue and I would be careful about trusting anything I read in any online forum.

You're welcome to whatever attitude you want, but I take it by your post that you don't actually have kids yet... I'm thinking you'll change your mind when you do.

Like most people on this forum, I don't have any actual experience or first hand knowledge on the subject of global warming and have to try to filter the things I'm told or that I read. I'm sure that the next few years will make it quite clear which side of the argument is right. I think to assume that humans couldn't possibly affect change to the planet's climate is a mistake. The "greenhouse effect" is pretty basic science, and there's no question that humans have contributed to green house gasses by namely, burning fuels and removing trees... The only questions are whether this will cause immediate and drastic change, whether the planet's climate can remain balanced from a human comfort point of view, and also whether we should "do" anything about it. Time will tell... we can all move to Canada if we have to...they have a lot of land there that might soon be thawing

Re: Global Warming? New Data Shows Ice Is Back

I am pretty sure Al Gore is going to take credit for puttng the ice back (just like he created the internet). I bet he made it in his freezer and pieced it together in the arctic cube by cube. Maybe Ted Kennedy helped out by donating the ice left in his drinks too?

Like I have said before, I don't think there is enough long term temperature data to ascertain whether or not the earth is truly warming and that the warming is caused solely by humans. Eventually, the earth will start to cool again as it has done before as another ice age approaches. We will all be SOL when that happens. So enjoy the warm weather (if it exists) while you can.

Re: Global Warming? New Data Shows Ice Is Back

30 years ago the same liberals and liberal media was crying that another ice age was coming, and we only had 10 years to make drastic changes in how we live in the USA or we would all freeze.
Now it is global warming, and we only have 10 years to make drastic changes in how we live or the ice will melt, and all the coast line will be flooded.
We don’t have to worry about air pollution anymore, we can all buy carbon offsets from Al Gore’s company.
http://www.carbonfund.org/?gclid=CMr...FQ7AQAodGh2MWw
http://www.terrapass.com/buy-carbon-...FRptOAodHUqZgA
http://www.nativeenergy.com/?gclid=C...FRJXQAodoTsZWg

Thanks to good forestry, there are more trees in the USA today, than there were in 1492.

I think that we should be more worried about all the Styrofoam cups and plastic bags that are thrown into our lakes and streams every year.
In a thousand years the archeologist will call this time, the plastic/Styrofoam era.

Quote:
The claims that we are experiencing a Greenhouse Effect in the atmosphere is attractive to those who might benefit from exploiting the concept. Politicians are latching on to this readily available claim for the purposes of political gain. For example, recent publicity efforts by former Vice President and present Venture Capital VP Al Gore says it's all about automobile emissions and fossil fuel use. He also claims that wasteful use of energy is the cause (he should talk! his family estate house uses as much electricity as a small community and is left running day by day!)

We say that in terms of what the primary climate change cause is, Al's dead wrong: he's misdirecting the public away from that which would be most embarrassing to those invested in Coal and Wood products. In our research, we've discovered that climate change is the byproduct of our times, and that as to Oxygen depletion: it's all about the ratio of Trees versus Algae in bearing the load of Carbon Dioxide conversion into Oxygen. Were there enough Trees in the equation, Climate Change would not be occurring other than that which would be normal for the Earth's and Oceans' cycles during this Era. All the cars, industry and energy waste in the world would have little or no impact. Today, they are only having nominal impact. While Energy Management is vital to conserve energy sources, and emissions controls are vital to preserve the quality of the air we breathe and the water we drink, Climate Change of the Global Warming alleged by Al Gore would involve far more CO2 sources than your granddad's '65 Oldsmobile. In reality, Atmospheric Quality hinges on a far greater contributing factor: the loss of 10 Billion Acres of Trees since 1492 being THE PRIMARY CONTRIBUTOR. We've unwittingly rolled the Earth's climate back to a time of greater warmth, higher ocean levels, and more deserts, a time before the era of the Dinosaurs! Yet the real problem is that Al Gore is overstating Humanity's role in Climate Change, and ignoring the more threatening consequence: clearing of trees is threatening to undermine the entire Oxygen content of our atmosphere, as well as contributing in a smaller way to global warming and climate change.

Today the Earth is, unknown to most climatologists apparently, in the middle of an ICE AGE. We are traversing the portion of that Age known as "the Interglacial Period", a period of natural warming characteristic of the midpoint of all ice ages: we are about 18,000 years into what is a normal period of warming expected to last about a total of 20-25,000 years.

Re: Global Warming? New Data Shows Ice Is Back

I too find it interesting that Al Gore sold out to a "green energy" venture capital group.

See

http://www.kpcb.com/

I assume the "green" refers to the cash in his pocket.

Re: Global Warming? New Data Shows Ice Is Back

I think the starting point that has been stated is whether or not man impacts the natural balance of climate...

http://www.ens-newswire.com/ens/dec2...3-12-12-06.asp

Could those climactic changes then create irreversible trends in the global climate?

http://www.dailycardinal.com/article/449

“If [high carbon emissions are] the cause, then the only way we can slow down or stop this ice loss is by reducing the buildup of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide and methane, in our atmosphere,” Vavrus said. “We know the sources of this pollution, but we continue to increase the emissions rates for a variety of economic and cultural reasons.”

Something you cannot deny impacts on health that is manmade.

Re: Global Warming? New Data Shows Ice Is Back

There is a part of the human personality that is susceptable to the "Chicken Littles" of the world. Some more than others. I recall just recently how the "hole" in the ozone layer over antarctica was a sign of the irreversible effects of flouro chemicals being released into the atmosphere. That got freon banned and voila the hole goes away and the frogs can see again.

Co inky dink?
