I didn't see too many V8 powered autos when I was down in Oz a year or so ago. Gas is too spendy down there. Most of those I did see were in the Holden "El Camino" that GM may very well market here as a Pontiac. They had an SS version of sorts that sounded pretty mean.

That's because the 6.2 liter gas engine for the trucks has more power.
But seriously, the G8 is a car I'm hoping my wife will pick when she gets a new car. It'll look good next to my Trans Am.
Unfortunately the 6.2 is puts your truck into the 40k+ range. It's obvious that they can make a powerful engine for less money - they just don't want to.

WTF? The current 6.0L VortecMax already has 367hp! 7hp more than the G8 you're talking about.
If the rumours are true, GM plans to discontinue the 6.0L and replace it with the 6.2L. I would guess they'll detune it slightly as to not encroach on the Denali power figures. At any rate, it'll never be rated more than the Vette because as an "unofficial" rule, no GM car or truck can have more HP than the current year Vette.
The reason why truck sales are down is due to the economy, not lack of hp When gas gets to $5.00 a gallon, PU truck sales are gonna be even worse. Huge gas guzzling 12mpg 400hp+ trucks are going to be the last thing on people's minds when they're currently losing large amounts of equity due to the housing slump.
Screw the stupid G8. I want to see a Pontiac version of the all new 2009 Camaro.

Please explain why the 05-06 GTO had an LS2 that put down the same numbers as the C6 Corvette?
Besides who cares how much HP your truck has? If you are gonna use a truck like it should be all that really matters is that you are putting down massive amounts of torque.

The reason why is because is was rated at the same hp, not MORE, than the C6 that year. However, even this made GM uncomfortable so they upped it to 438hp on the '08's with the new LS3.
The CTS-V, STS-V and the XLR-V are specialty niche vehicles which don't follow the rule per se. However, GM has it's own specialty C6 by the name of the Z06 which is rated at 505hp. With the new ZR1 coming out with a supercharged LS3 rated at 600hp, the V-series vehicles from Cadillac are assured they have a lot of room to grow in the power department so to speak.

I agree, but that's why the new Toyota Turd...dra is selling so well. The 381hp hipnotizes aging yuppy baby boomers who are going through their mid life crises even though the overall quality is subpar for being a Toyota product.
