I would add that I'm not at all excited about being in Iraq however a pull out now will destabilize the region. I will more than likely vote for McCain only because I do not want to see oil prices shut down the U.S. economy and for religious wars breaking out again in the region.

President Bush has offended so many nations in the Middle East with the "Axis of Evil" speeches to villify them to justify our presence. Yet how many terrorists have we caught at the borders to prove this? Zero! (that at least made the TV)

Now Iraq and Iran are starting relations again and as Iran's President has cleverly masterminded the new villain to be the U.S.! "The US is bringing terrorists to your country"-speech plays well with Iraqis...

Iraqis may love our aid and building infrastructure but as soon as we leave, no democracy will occur. They will again have a dominant party...

I only have a few questions for you, nothing serious... lol... isn't the area, Iraq, already destablized? and I can't help to think that if Bush hadn't been so gun-ho about Iran maybe Iran wouldn't be so anti-america? Just a couple things to think about.

And, we can't stop one guy from bombing us by blowing up countries with full scale land invasions by our army. Armies are used to overthrow countries, not 10 guys in a basement. Best thing we have to combat these small groups is intelligence, both our own, and using diplomacy so we can gather the intelligence from other nations as well...

You can't just go blowing up everyone who doesn't like us. You just end up making more people that don't like us. Thing about war, is you have to use it smartly (bushism)...

I feel it is better to speak softly, and carry a big stick than to....Take the bush approach and go around whacking everyone with a stick just because eventually you'll hit a bad guy.

That DOESN'T mean there's NEVER a reason to hit anyone with your stick either...you just need to be able to make calculated decisions about whether whacking person A makes you more or less safe. It's a fallacy to assume war always makes you safer...

A failure to recognize that point by some in this conversation is what's frustrating me. I mean, do you guys (pro Iraq war guys) understand where i'm coming from. That there could be such a thing as a bad war in the middle east? Or is your stance that we need to be safe, and knocking off all these muslim countries is what is needed...because they all don't like us?

In that case, are you mad that bush hasn't gone NucUlar(bushism)? How far is too far? I'm just trying to find a bit of middle ground here.

The intelligence is in these countries. They dont use email, phones, or sattelites(sp). We have to go there unfortunately to learn what they are plotting next. For i.e. 9/11.

Whay would YOU of all people care about who likes you and who doesnt? So I guess it's ok for other organizations funded by extremeist countries to blow us up on large scales and it's ok? Thats a bunch of
