Re: Global Cooling....

Gore will probably say his book made folks aware of global warming causing them to drive less. More awards comming for him now.

Re: Global Cooling....

nobody knows sh-t, they're all just guessing if you ask me. There's too many variables in the world for anybody to accuratly predict todays weather much less the global climate. They're just trying to keep their job sercurity imo.

Re: Global Cooling....

A couple years ago Dennis Miller (old Sat Night Live guy) was on Jay Leno and he showed an article from Time magazine from the mid-70's where scientists were predicting an ice age and were trying to come up with a way to heat the polar ice caps

I don't think anyone can say for sure that burning fossil fuels doesn't do anything to the environment because nobody really knows for sure. But, these clowns that (Al Gore, etc.) who pick and choose the data to support their particular agenda are really causing a lot of financial and economic problems for us.

Re: Global Cooling....

I'm personally in the unsure (and unpopular) camp as far as global warming is concerned. I really have no idea who you can even trust on this issue anymore. That being said, I see no reason whatsoever that we shouldn't continue gradually increasing the efficiency and cleanliness of our way of life. I'm sure as sh*t not going to stop owning a big pickup but I wouldn't mind if the damn thing got better than 13 mpg. If anything, efficiency and cleanliness are things that we should do no matter what is happening to the global temperature.

Re: Global Cooling....

Don't eat beans and kill off all the cows, methane gas is more damaging to the Ozone that fossil fuels, at least that is what some jacka$$ commercial here in Florida is saying.

It's all BS.
Fact, the climate has been changing since there has been climate on Earth. Examples of this would be the 2-3 ice ages we know about. Animals have been going extinct since animals have lived on Earth. It's a fact that more animals will go extinct. It's life on Earth and one day us Humans will be talked about by the next generation of humans long after we are gone. As the climate does change we will evolve and adapt just like animals have been doing for the last billion or so years.

We need to get off of oil, that is a fact. Not for the Ozone but because isn't forever. What really sucks is the mining of minerals to build these super batteries for hybrid cars causes more damage to the Earth than the fumes it's replacing.

You want efficient vehicles, diesel is the way to go. If we could get diesel-electric cars and trucks we would be saving tons of money of fuel. Just like trains, the diesel idles and powers a generator for the electric motors. I think it was popular mechanics that did a story on this years ago, I was still in high school and read the article in mechanics class. At the time with diesel technology and electric motor technology of the day a diesel-electric car producing 200hp got 60mpg. Imagen what we could do now. Imagen a 4cly diesel powering up a generator running a 300-400hp electric motor at the back wheels or 200hp motor up front and 200hp in the back. Imagen being able to stop at red light and within 5 seconds of stopping the engine shuts off to save fuel and as soon as you hit the pedal you have instant power. Don't say it can't be done because gas golf carts have been doing for years. Of course that shut feature would have override for when you drag race and need instant instant power.

In 1995 I belive it was when Tropical storm Erin sat over Central Florida and raised hell for about 20 hours we lost power at the CATV Plant I worked at. We had a diesel generator that was installed in 1979 to power up the building so the CATV would still work. That generator ran for 3 days straight at 1200 rpms powering up a 8000sqft building with a/c, lights, power and CATV equipment and only burned 40 gallons of diesel. This was a straight 6 big nasty outdated oil burner.
