I just came out of an 06 STi that was heavily modified. Scary fast and an absolute blast to drive, but small and, to me, cheaply made. They are easy to modify (not cheap, but easy).
If I had to do it again I would do the Sti just because of the AWD. If the G37 was offered with it then no contest.
