Fixing to pick up something..well... FAST!!!!

Should be going in the next few weeks to pick up a motorcycle. Everybody in town has been getting them, and I have rode several of my friends, and IM HOOKEd.. Looking at either gettin A GSXR 600, or 750, or a Yamaha R6. Ima start out with a 600 at first until I really get used to it, then ill step it on up to a 1000.

sounds exciting man, im 17 and im a motorcycle mechanic for our race team so im around race bikes everyday of my life and i love them. from experience, i would go with the gsxr 750 just because the stance that they have makes them a very comfortable bike and its super light so getting the front wheel up is like nothing. I ride a honda 954 and the thing has crazy power but its work to get the front wheel up. If you ever want any parts or anything, just let me know cuz I work for a motorcycle shop and I can hook you up with anything possible for any bike you choose

If everyone in town is getting motorcycles for the first time, then there will be some people getting hurt, just make sure your not one of them.
Don't ride over your head just to keep up.

Cool Man Im 18. oh awesome that your a mechanic and know alot about them. yea I really am lookin at the New blue 750. I have spent alot of time on Dirt Bikes and stuff growing up, but yea ima take it easy on it at first. I really wanna jus be like Hek with it, and get me an R1, but like I know im not ready for that so ima start out smaller. A boy got an 06 Hayabusa today, and it will ROLL... its just kind of a wave with gas so High and stuff that everybody is getting them. Plus its fun to just get out in a big group and all ride somewhere and eat or somethingg. I rode one of my friends GSXR 600 about 2 miles the other day, and it was fun. MANN!! its just a 600 but these things are FASSTT!! ha. I was told the R6 is one of the best Handling bikes there is, and a great one to start out on so I am thinking about it also. One of my friends has an R1 and he is smoking everybodyy, except I doubt he will the Hayabusa now. but yea I definitely will get up with you if I need parts or anything. I never leave anything stock, so yea you definitely will probably be getting a message here soon. In a minute ill post a pic of 2 of the bikes im trying to decide between..

and rholland thanks for the heads up. Ima be smart on it though. I am not quite ready to exit this world yet..but yes its probably just a matter of time before someone gets hurt on one, bc I know some boys that have had em a week, and come by on the 4lane runnin 160+.

Re: Fixing to pick up something..well... FAST!!!!

Wow.... I feel REALLY old.... I rode street bikes for about 6 years starting when I was 16. Thankfully, I'm not a bad statistic and don't have any 'dead friend' stories to scare you with. That being said, be carful.... really carful.

Pretty much any bike will be fast enough to kill yourself with instantly so don't feel like you're being a lot safer by opting for a 600 vs a 1000. I think a lot depends on your height and weight. If you're a taller/bigger guy, go for a larger bike. Typically, larger physically means larger HP wise too.

With the price of gas I've been looking at bikes lately. Unfortunatley, the wife would never go for it (one child with one on the way) and I'm a contractor so hauling around my stuff on a bike is not gonna fly.

Enjoy yourself and have fun... but, again the 'old guy' warning.... be carful! Particularly when riding with others. You can waste ANY car off the line but when in a group of other cycles it's tempting to really get on it. Let the others go until you're skilled.

Above all else, wear the right gear. Leather is your friend. Please don't be one of the yahoos I see out riding in Bermuda shorts and thongs.

Hope yours doesn't end up like mine, total loss. If it wasn't for the helment, I would have drowned. The water I landed in was so dark that I could not see at all. The helment pulled me to the surface.

I used to live in South Louisiana, a bayou next to every road. They had a truck carring water in front of me, and it was leaking water. They had 3 cars in between me and the truck, and they were going 30 in a 55 so I decided to pass. Well the water truck decides to make a turn with no signal lights. I didn't know if he was turning left or right, I didn't want to take a chance of him turning left across the lane I was trying to pass on. So I got back behind him in front of the 3 cars. That is when I learned it was leaking water on the road. I tryed to stop, but could not. So I drove the bike off the right side of the road into a small bayou. I had to miss a big truck, gaurd rail for the bridge, and a gas pipeline.

In the first pic where that 18 wheeler is is where the water truck ended up stopping.

In this pic you can see I didn't have much room to ditch the bike. The water truck stayed on the road, and I had to aim the bike in between the gaurd rail and the pipeline.

Don't let the size of the little bayou fool you, I never felt the bottom.

Yeah, I was almost 30, and had ridden bikes alot. Sometimes you just can't see the danger until it is too late.

I had a friend die last month, when someone with a suspended license pulled out in front of him. He was in his mid 40's, and his youngest son just made 19. The guy is getting charged with vehicular homicide.

I am 5"11, and about 160. Those 600's will hold there own against the bigger bikes up until around 50. Especially if you change the sprockets. It more than likely won't be something you do if you wreck. Most motorcyle wrecks are caused the other drivers not paying attention. Always give yourself plenty room in traffic. Never ride on the side of a car.
