I have decided to get a radar detector and I wanted to hear from those who have them. I have them narrowed down to the Passport 9500i and the Valentine1. I can get the 9500i for a great price ($220) or pay full price for the V1 ($399). Which one should I go with?
I have been using the newest Valentine V1 - have tried the rest - No tickets with the V1 - it picks up on the ones moving up from behind you with it's 360 degree detection. Well worth the extra $$ - pays for itself in insurance savings with the first ticket you don't get. Just my experience - I hope it helps you.

Valentine. And get the optional remote display. It's the high end but I am very impressed with mine. They even have a way to update the current units
as newer technology comes into play.
Valentine's the man when it comes to radar detection. Read up. Call their customer reps. Bet you choose Valentine.

I have the beltronics rx-65, and it has been great. I had it for over 2 years, but the speaker went out. They will repair it for 65 dollars, and update it while it is in. Saved my butt more than once. I like that it gives you the frequency that is hitting you, you quickly learn which numbers are police.
I have a Beltronics 955, very satisfied, though I will say that their customer service is for $hit. I had it repaired once, $65. To get the warranty, you have to buy it direct from them, and guess how much more they charge???
Anyway, V1 is superior of the 2 you mentioned. Look at the Radar Roy site from above, and here is another thread about the exact same thing: radar/laser detectors
by the time it goes off, they already got you. why bother?
if you're stopped you might be able to talk your way out of the ticket, but not if you have a detector. it tells the arresting officer that you are a habitual speeder.
it's better to study the laws in your state. both so you know what you can get away with and also what to do if you're stopped.

That statement is not true. If you have a quality detector and you pay attention to it, you will be warned in time of radar use.
Lidar is different, and you may have no warning. However, Lidar is a lot more restricted in capacity (read: very shallow angle required) which means you have a better chance of seeing the bugger anyway.

Or you could man up and pay the damn ticket. You know you were speeding, you know the risk, as the saying goes, you have to pay to play.
FWIW - I have gotten 2 speeding tickets in 12 years of driving. Both in NY. One with no protection, and one with a POS RMR Jammer/Detector (RMR is a total hoax and should be sued into oblivion, but that is for another thread).
I pretty much speed always on the highway, rarely in town, never in front of a school. Keep to those rules, and you will be fine too.
they work well.. they save me all the time on the way to havasu when there is nothing but miles upon miles of open road and no cars. not sure how but they pick up the signal way before i can even see the cop.
in my titan (take a dodge 2500 diesel to havasu, we have a big boat) i want to run the hidden detector that mounts under your hood.
here is the info:
BEL Beltronics Vector LR 975 Remote Mount
Radar Detector that Remotely Mounts for Out of Sight Install
Remote mount incorporates an "under-the-hood" radar antenna, plus front and rear window-mount laser sensors for an out of sight, permanent installation
Fast Response: lightning fast microprocessor can detect and process a signal in less than one second! This "attack time" is crucial against laser and instant-on radar
Digital Signal Processing (DSP) with AutoScan™ feature continuously analyzes all incoming signals and automatically rejects unwanted false alarms
Easy-to-Use Options and Controls
Clear Audio Alerts: Extra loud tones provide audio you can hear even in noisy environments
Brightness Control with Full Dark Mode: Three levels of brightness to choose from, including full dark mode for discreet night travel
City Mode Filtering
Mute and AutoMute: AutoMute feature automatically reduces the volume level during an alert
VG2 Immunity: Exclusive Shadow Technology™ keeps you unseen by VG2 (radar detector detector)
Operating Bands
X-band: 10.525 GHz ± 25 MHz
K-band: 24.150 GHz ± 100 MHz

The V1 is hard to beat. The directional arrows make it really easy to determine false alarms because every detector I have had falses, althought the V1 does false alarm less than others.
