My buddy has one and it's pretty sweet. It's way more powerful than all the rhino's I've ridden in, granted it's still completely stock and all the rhino's I've been on have had big mud tires, but they're still pretty quick.
I don't know much about them really, but it's just like everything else...
The Rhino was the first legitimate side x side designed for FUN, not WORK, and they set the bar pretty high. Since then, Polaris (Razr), Kawasaki (Teryx), etc. have come out with their own machines and each one has raised the bar a bit higher. Now I will say that I've ridden in both the Rhino and Razr, and just this past Saturday, I looked at a new Teryx when I was at the local Cabelas Store. The Teryx appeared to be more on the lines of the Rhino as far as size/design, whereas the Razr is more like a little buggy.
I guess it all depends on what you're gonna do with the thing. They've gotten to the point where you can spend just as much on these as you could your truck. Extended A-arms, shocks, roll cages, doors, plastics, etc...
If I were buying new, and picking between the Rhino/Teryx, I'd probably choose the Teryx.
I'm sure you could probably find an early model Rhino for a decent price now though, with a winch and other extras too.
i have owned a teryx for about 2 months.i havent been on any of the other brands but i would recomend the teryx. its set up for work and play. the only draw back is that its carberated. the plus thing is that performance mods are cheaper. u dont have a computer to worry about. just fyi if u live in the desert or places with stickers and torns then i would slime those tires.if u have any more questions write back and ill give u the heads up.
I have a Brute Force 650 which is the smaller cousing to the 750 engine in the Teryx. They are great engines with tons of torque, and they are very fast. However, I would consider two things.
1. Kawasaki did not put EFI on the Teryx, and the big Kawi v-twins are very picky with jetting. In my experience changes in temp, humidity, altitude, etc.. plays havoc on the carbs. So if you dont' want the possibility of jetting the carbs a bunch, you may want to look towards the Rhino EFI. Not that this is the end all be all of issues, but it is something to think about.
2. Kawasaki's 4X4 engagement system is about the crappiest thing I have ever seen. The ATV will have to be moving in order to get 4wd to engage. You can not put it in 4wd when you get stuck, and expect it to engage. You have to anticipate needing 4wd and push the button while still moving. It is something you get used to, but still a pain sometimes. Once again, the Rhino's 4wd is pretty much on demand. You push the button, you get 4wd.
2.5 Unless Kawasaki has changed things, the engine braking system is somewhat crappy. I constantly have issues with freewheeling on my Brute.
All that being said, if I was in the UTV market I would put the Rhino and the Teryx at the top of the list. If I was shorter I would look at the Polaris RZR. So for me it would be a touch decision between the Kaw and Yamaha.
I am a happy Kawasaki owner at the present time, I just think those are things everybody should know about when looking at that brand.
