"thank You America!", Opec

If they were being truthful, the OPEC oil ministers would look you in the eye and say, "We are at war with you infidels and have been since the embargo in the 1970s. You are so arrogant you haven't even recognized it. You have more missiles, bombs, and technology; so we are fighting with the best weapon we have and extracting on a net basis about $700 billion/year out of your economy. We will destroy you! Death to the infidels!

While I am here I would like to thank you for the following: Not developing your 250-300 year supply of oil
shale and tar sands. we know if you did this, it would create thousands of jobs for U.S. citizens, expand your engineering capabilities, and keep the wealth in the U.S. instead of sending it to us to finance our war against you infidels.

Thanks for limiting defense dept. purchases of oil sands from your neighbors to the north. We love
it when you confuse your allies.

Thanks for over regulating every segment of your economy and thus delaying, by decades, the
development of alternate fuel technologies.

Thanks for limiting drilling off your coasts, in Alaska, and anywhere there is an insect, bird, fish, or
plant that might be inconvenienced. Better that your people suffer. Glad to see our lobbying efforts have
been so effective.

Corn based Ethanol. Praise Allah for this sham program! Perhaps you will destroy yourself from the
inside with these types of policies. This is a gift from Allah, praise his name! We never would have
thought of this one! This is better than when you pay your farmers NOT TO GROW FOOD. Have them use
more energy to create less energy, and simultaneously drive up food prices.
Thank you U.S. Congress!

And finally, we appreciate you letting us fleece you without end. You will be glad to know we have
been accumulating shares in your banks, real estate, and publicly held companies. We also finance a good
portion of your debt and now manipulate your markets, currency, and economies for our benefit.

"THANK YOU AMERICA!"

You stupid fools!

Signed,
OPEC

I think it would be a shorter letter:

Dear America:

Thanks for learning nothing back in the 70s and failing to develop an oil alternative for your energy and plastic needs.

P.S., We love the speculators involvement in the futures markets, they are driving up the price much higher than the already outrageous supply/demand equation would have set the price. Also, can Bush please have a 3rd Term?

Make no mistake: the price of the raw gas is about the same as the U.S., but Europe taxes gasoline at a higher rate. At the moment, taxes in France make up about 70 percent of the pump price. For comparison, the U.S. federal gasoline tax of of 2005 was 18.4 cents per gallon, with each State adding between 10 and 33 cents of tax, according to Widipedia. That makes the maximum gasoline tax rate 17% in the U.S.

Man, if that didn't sound so much like it was written by a racist American it could almost be taken seriously. Almost...

News Flash: Just because a person is a Muslim and believes in Allah and Muhammad, does not automatically make them a terrorist. I mean, if you want to generalize I'm sure we can for the Christian religion too. The Crusades, the Inquisition, the holocaust, all of these things were done by "Good Christian Men", all of whom believed God was on their side.

Believe it or not the contemporary Muslim Koran does not contain the phrase "Death to America".

Ahh SpiritOne, you haven't seen previous posts on the topic...

We've already established that Muslims are all bad and all are terrorists, that Christians have never done anything wrong, nor Americans, nor the current Administration to warrant anger on the parts of the world that see us not as we see us, but as they do...

And anyone bringing up such a topic is labeled anti-American, anti-Christian, and, a liberal, a supporter of terrorism...

Beyond the "letter", the point is that we do not have a long-term energy policy but are guided by 2-6 year increments of Presidential and Congressional policy-making that amounts to stumping to get a vote and blaming the opposite party for the problems. Both parties do it.

At what price point will Americans rethink how we use our incoming oil?

The problem with that slant is that it totally places no responsibility on the United States Government or us for helping create this situation.

It comes from the philosophy of "we want more" and cry when we don't get it rather than "we need to use more efficiently" and learn to make sacrifices and choices before coming to this predicament.

Asking for more oil and drilling for more oil do nothing to manage our thirst and dependence upon it. 20-30 years down the road, we'd be right back where we are-asking for more.

That "letter" blames everyone but us.

I am hoping they get the oil from algae and oil from bacteria tech cranked up soon. In a decade, the story might be, Oil from OPEC?? Sorry, the shipping costs are prohibitive. Keep it.

Re: "thank You America!", Opec

LOL That was a good one. The corn based oil thing could offset some of the cost if it could be processed efficiently and the high prices over in europe just shows that corn could help some, look at Venezuela paying what 16 cents a gal?! Come on, we are all responsible but the big wigs with money (Government) should use our tax dollars to actually take care of us by coming up with better alternatives.

Re: "thank You America!", Opec

Drilling more oil is a short term fix... does anyone dispute that? Energy solutions require a forward thinking government, which would require a forward thinking public.

If we drill for oil, and drill enough that we can send prices down, we all will continue to have an oil based economy...and OPEC will wait it out, 20-30 years, they know we'll be back eventually, we are addicts after all.

Gotta break the addiction to break oil strangle hold on us...

Some of you might say... Hey I'm not an addict... sure whatever pal. When gas prices go up what do you do? You pay more...thats what.

Sounds like an addict to me.

So who do we blame, the dealer or the addict?

ehhh.... anyway, I'll go back to doing my part and driving my 10mpg beast...muah ha ha ha.

It's a little painful now, I agree, but if oil prices stay high, the market will present solutions... IN CAPITALISM WE TRUST!!!

^^ i agree with this. i just would like to see our tax dollars encourage our own industries to present those solutions through R&D rather than wait for the solutions to come from a european or asian country...which would mean we still import our energy and/or energy products, whether it's oil or something else. We have so little else to keep our economy going...

Re: "thank You America!", Opec

Wake up people. US oil speculators are the reason for our gas prices, greedy A hole Americans are driving the prices through the roof, NOT OPEC. And as far as what we Didn't learn from the 70s, look at all of the people that drive Hummers, Large SUVs, and Pickups for no reason other than they want to. I'm a contractor and have to drive a pickup, does my wife drive a Suburban? NO, a Honda Odyssey that has as much room, but gets 27mpg hwy, and when she doesn't need the room, an Accord. When I don't have to drive the truck, I use the other vehicle or a motorcycle that gets 52mpg.

And as far as Europe, yes they pay major taxes on gas, but with the mass transit, you don't need to drive, and those taxes cover your retirement, healthcare, 6 weeks of vacation a year, etc, they don't get F***ed by HMOs and insurance companies. So b*tching about gas prices is mostly our fault, at least those driving gas guzzlers when they don't have to, and those that go greed over national concerns. So, if you took all of the money you spend on healthcare, insurance, and retirement, and spent it on gas, how far could you drive, even at $7 a gallon? Unless you drive a hummer, pretty damn far.......stupid socialist governments, see we got it right, right? A friend was just over in Germany on business and gas worked out to just over $6 a gallon.....with all of those benefits, we aren't too far from that now and we are just getting screwed.
