my new toy

Just picked this up yesterday. I have been wanting one for a while and finally decided to get one. It's an '01 YZF600R. A little old, but only has 5K miles on it.

Re: my new toy

Yeah, it has been a while since I have ridden a bike, so I am taking it slowly. Taking one of the safety classes too, so that should help.

Re: my new toy

I see a lot of people doing this. With fuel prices the way they are it's a great excuse to buy something that you will have fun with. I mean you did buy it just because of fuel prices.......right?

Re: my new toy

looks nice. Ive got myself a Cruiser but ive always had an eye on street bikes. Im thinking 600 will be my max on engine size for street bikes. But i love sport quads / dirt bikes / and my cruiser... so I just gotta save up and pick up a nice one.

Be careful as many people dont watch out for us Motorcycles.

And remember - ride it like you stole it :-) But within reason.

Re: my new toy

Nice bike! I ride a 1997 YZF600R and couldn't be happier. I bought it new 11 years ago and even though the peformance of the new 600's is awesome I have no thoughts of buying new. Get yourself a new slip-on exhaust pipe. It will make it slightly lighter and louder and will look great.

Re: my new toy

Yeah, definitely gotta look out for those crazy drivers. Getting a license is pretty easy here in TX. Just take a written test and a driving test, but you can take a MSF class and not take the driving test and save money on your insurance because of it. OF COURSE I bought it because gas is so high.

Not sure what the laws are in your state, but in Oklahoma, all you need to do is pass the written and riding test. The written part was actually a little tricky, and the riding part was just riding around town for a bit while the tester follows you in a car (he gives directions via head set). After that, you get an endorsement on your license. In some states, you have to take a safety/riding class before you can take your bike test. It's not that big of a deal though.

Re: my new toy

in Co you have to take a written test for a permit or skip it and do a parking lot driving test for an actual license
