Concealed holster questions.

Ok so I just got my concealed carry permit and I am having trouble finding good holster options. I am sure a few people could help with some suggestions. First I own a Springfield XD .40 cal. Not really a compact at all. I also like beer so I definately don't have a 6 pack, more like a keg. So I was thinking the most comfortable and best accessable would be a paddle style holster in the small of my back. I do wear big shirts so that would aid in concealment. Can any one suggest where (like a website) I could find some good holsters? Also should I look in to more of a sub compact pistol like a Sig or the Glock 36? Any suggestions are wanted. Thanks.

No Fear badging on grill, sides, and tailgate. Stainless steel instument cluster and pedals w/ No Fear badging, No Fear floor mats.

Re: Concealed holster questions.

I tried carrying in the small of my back, but did not like it. You would be surprised how many times you bend over in a day. I like to carry in the front of my pants inside the waist band. It gives me much more control, and security of the gun. Just my preference.

I found these for the front carry. Do you know anything about this style of holster? Gun holsters concealed by SmartCarry concealed holsters

Re: Concealed holster questions.

On the Fobus holster the paddle goes inside the pants and pistol on the out side or the other way around? Oh I am also left handed if that make a difference.

I have the cheap AMBI holsters. They are nothing fancy, just nylon with a small belt clip. If you are carrying inside your pants, you don't need a high dollar holster, but if you are carrying outside your pants. Please get a real good holster. It just needs to hold the gun from sliding down. Buy a cheap one first, and try it in different locations. Once you know where you want to carry, then get a holster designed for that position.

I have a "cheap" nylon w/belt clip holster right now it just doesn't conceal all that well. It's big, has an extra clip pouch, you can tell I am carrying which is ok because Nevada is a carry state but it wouldn't work for concealment.

Re: Concealed holster questions.

I had mine in Louisiana for 10 years, it is very easy. Just go online to Louisiana state police, or stop by their office, and ask for a request for application. Fill it out and send it in. You will then receive a packet in the mail with all the instructions you need. Basically a course 2 days when I took it, fingerprints, photo, notary to say you are who you say you are, then mail it back in. You only have a certain amount of time from when you take the pic to mail every thing in, so do that last. The person taking your fingerprints also has to sign the back of the pic, so on second thought do that last.

I have the one on the 5th row down in the center postion. I cut the velcro off. They were AMBI, but have since changed their name.

Correct. Paddle inside the pants for quick on/off or under the belt for more secure carry. They come left or right handed carry.

thanks i just read up on it. It sounded like you had to take the class before submitting the applacation. So is that not correct? Anyway the reason i havent done it yet is cause i dont turn 21 until 8 more months. So i was going to take the NRA class over my Christmas break from college. or do i have to wait and turn 21 before i can take the class? If you dont know dont worry about it. When the time comes i will call and get all the answers i need.

One more quick question. A month after i turned 18 i was arrested for disturbing the piece, possession of alcohol, and contributing alcohol to a minor (my 17 year old gf at the time, who wasnt even drinking, and still doesnt my i mind you). but anyway the alcohol charges were both nolle processed. And i plead guilty to disturbing the peace which later got esponged from my record. None of these were felony charges and all were eventually dropped. So would this have any affect on whether they approve me or not? I wouldnt think so just wondering what to expect.

You have to have the course before submitting the application, but not before you request the application. Before you submit all the paper work everything has to be done. The request for application is different, it has to be the first thing you do.

That is tricky, because you are not supposed to have a handgun until you are 21 and you have to have a handgun to pass the course. I would say no, but I am not positive on this one.

If the only charge you plead quilty of was the disturbing the peace, then you should be fine. It doesn't have to be a felony charge to get you denied but you should be fine with this.

Here in Nevada I took a 6 hour class at my local range. 3 hours class room 3 hours range. Have to qualify with 5 in a 8" target at 5 yards and the same at 10 yards. They give you a card you take it into the Sheriff's office and they give you your card. $80 for the class $105 for the permit. As far as your criminal charges as long as there are no felonies you should be ok.
