They announced they will be closing our office in June. 230+ people will be out of jobs. It's not so much about loosing my job that is disappointing. Prior to our acquisition of a global company two years ago, we as a small 300 person manufacturing and engineering facility were able to achieve high efficiency goals, fast production turnaround, very high profit margin, and internal access to our customers product planning and design strategies.
Since our acquisition, the bloated overhead of a large global corporation successfully chipped away at all the synergies that have made us so profitable and successful. What took our parent company 30 people to migrate their database of equal size, we did it with 8, and in less time. The product development cycle increased from 2 to 3 years, and quality is down the tubes do to production moved from the US into a low cost provider country.
So, time to exercise battle plan B and join the masses of unemployed affected by the market, and government inability to recognize that a direct business stimulus via tax incentives to businesses and tax payers will be the answer to getting things shifted around quickly.

Thanks guys. I am at least employed till June. I will receive up to 9 weeks of full time pay after the last date. If the economic situation is still bad after that, then I tap into the slush fund. I'm alright overall. Looking forward to a new journey.

It is great to see a positive attitude when times are tough, especially after loosing your job. I hope everything works out.

It's kind of strange how this seems to be happening to many profitable and worthwhile American businesses at an alarming rate - no help for them, just for wasteful global corporations and banks. It "almost" seems like it's happening on purpose... Then again, maybe it's just me... I see "conspiracies" everywhere - sad thing is, they all to frequently turn out to be real...

Well, I have some harmless pranks lined up. When we were bought out, and the "standards" that kept coming down from corporate and breaking every efficiency we had, we often referenced the Star Trek episode of the Borg.
Our internal website was mandated to have a new company logo on it, so I modified the faces with Borg implants. This will get uploaded when I near my last month.
I thought of nuking some executive accounts, but attorneys are too costly. I'll keep it clean, discrete, and harmless.
Corporate will eventually find out about our Counter Strike server connected to the T-1. It will be dearly missed.
