Backwards Power inverter????

This may be a little out there....

I know you can get what they call a power inverter to plug a regular plug into a cigarette lighter.

Is there such a thing that would allow you to plug a car appliance into a househould outlet.

The reason I ask is I have a big old sub and amp that wont fit in my Titan, so I was wondering if I could power it up and add it to my home stereo!

If anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated.

It depends on the current draw, but a power supply is what you are looking for.

You can get one from Radio Shack, or from Ham Radio Outlet.

Unfortunately, your car sub will probably sound bad in your home, unless of course you prefer a sub that has a lot of MID bass boom. I wouldn't expect you would hit the real low frequencies as most car subs are generally tuned to higher frequencies than pure home subs. Also car subs use the natural low frequency reinforcement that vehicle environments provide. In a mid to large room you lose this effect.

For music, the sub probably won't perform as expected but for home theater the mid bass boom might be good. Musical sounding subs are generally tuned lower than a sub that is used primarily for home theater.

I just want to forewarn you before you invest too much money into converters. Good luck, and I hope it works out for you.

BTW, what kind of sub are you going to use???

what size and make is your sub? i had 2 pioneer premeir 15'' (top of thier line with huge magnets not walmart subs) and made nice big box for em and they sounded great. it also helps a whole lot to have a quality eq, with it you can really emphysize or cut out any freq. you want.

I have a few random subs and amps laying around. I have a 15" rockford fosgate DVC in a sealed box. I also have a pair of 10"s in a bandpass box. To power them I have a couple of MTX amps. They put out plenty of power in my past cars.

I also have a nice pair of boston 6.5" component speakers that I pulled from a car right before I sold it. I was thinking about building a box for them and hooking them up in the garage. just a thought. I spent so much money on this crap I feel bad letting it sit around and collecting dust.

If you are putting these in your home and you really want to go to the effort of making them sound as good as possible, I would recommend using one of the many box modelling programs out there to achieve your goals. Check out www.adireaudio.com. They have at least one modelling program to download for free. You basically plug in all of the parameters of your particular sub and you can get box size recommendations or it will let you change the box size and you can see how it effects the frequency response of the sub. It really is a fun program to play with.
