Don't take this the wrong way, but I would never live in SF or SJ. I spent just over 24 hours there this week and the amount of traffic is insane as well as those idiots who refuse to drive in the slow lanes or pull over to let someone who is going faster than they are pass them.
What is it with CA drivers? Are you all so concerned about getting home that you think letting one person in front of you will cause you to be late? I don't get it.
I drove into SJ on Wednesday night and stayed at the Hilton next to the Convention Center. I took a short drive over to the mall (not sure of the name, only that it is huge) to pick up a few things and drove back to the hotel. I also drove across the street to Santana Row where I realized I would be way over my budget if I even parked. I think it was the four Lamborghini's parked there that cemented that thought.
Anyway, the next day I spent at a conference and then drove over to the Google HQ in Mtn. View. 45 minutes to go 13 miles? You have got to be kidding me.
I left their campus and headed back to Reno at 8pm and it took me over 90 minutes to get to the Bay Bridge up 101. 8pm and traffic is still that heavy? What are you people thinking?
I feel better now.

Gee, wonder why I left, the politics maybe. . .
Changed a lot in 57 + years, I'll tell you that.
Just think, people have to drive in that every friggin' day just to get to work and back. Some people can't afford to live in the Bay Area but work there and drive over 200 miles a day. Can you say insanity? What was the price of gas, Roy????

Over the past year traffic has actually been better along the coast of Calif. See, there used to be this smoke colored Titan pick up that slowed everyone down.....

The Mall you went to was called Valley Fair. That and Santana Row shops are visited mostly by the richy richy. I see Lamborghinis, Ferraris,Maseratis, etc etc there every week.
HWY 101 is busy all weekdays from 6 am to 7 pm, especially during rush hour times.

Actually I heard that when you moved to Tennessee the average speed in the Bay Area and the average speed in Tennessee both went up. There's a message in there somewhere.
How are things going? Have you managed to get the local Titan owners together yet?
alright i'm from the east coast but spent 8 days out in SJ and a day in SF... the traffic was INSANE... we'd drive to surf spots and on the way home, bam... traffic! now being on the east coast and hitting NY for work, i've seen traffic, but JESUS you've got some jams over there....
Reno.... we stopped there at 430 am, the place was jumping, i had just woken up for my driving shift and there were kids up.... little kids! does anyone sleep in reno??
to respond to you chris... haha i was in costa rica on another surf trip... and it was our camps night to host the local party, which travels from camp to camp daily.. anyway, three blondes are next to us talking amungst themselves... now, i had been out of the US for about a week when I heard these three air heads speak... everything they said was SO important and ever other word was like yeah um soooo like y eaaaaah have you checked out YEAH!!!! OMG!!! It was seriously the first time I considered killing a hot chick just to protect the human gene pool... do they not teach grammar in CAL?
I live in Milpitas myself, and drive all over Norcal for my job. I hate the traffic here, but it's just as bad in other places. SanFransh**hole is hell. If I get lucky, I will soon be posting from North Carolina.
The traffic and cost of living is why so many people are moving up to God's country (Amador or Calavares County). Our traffic jam is at the only 4 way stop in town (no traffic lights), and lasts about 5 minutes at around 8:00 am . I've lived here for two years and know most of the business owners on a first name basis. There's a problem with wild turkeys wandering across the road occasionally, and you have to be careful to keep from running over rabbits or quail at dawn and dusk. I hate to have to travel to Stockton or Sacramento and fight the traffic. And the Bay Area is strictly off limits. Life is too short to get caught in that mess.
hey Roy you should spend a week down in So Cali and see which is worse
You introduce me to your avatar and I would make that trip.
I have found that Reno is slowly becoming California East. I am starting to see a lot more CA plates her these days. Maybe they are coming here for the lower gas prices, if you can call $3.15 low these days.
Rush hour in Reno is about 30 minutes and exists only on the expressways and a few nasty intersections. My commute is 2.75 miles (3 traffic lights) so I don't even get to experience traffic. I usually make it to/from work in under 5 minutes.
