Re: Oregon Question

What part of Oregon are you looking at? I live in Vancouver, WA and commute to Portland everyday. Personally I would look into Vancouver for property, the land is cheaper, schools are better, less crime, and better communties. The only downfall about living in Vancouver and working in Portland is paying the damn income tax. Let me know

My fiance's lived there as well-ditto to what Eric's stating...

The cities along the coast Seaside, Tillamook, etc would be expensive because they are vacation spots.

Along the Hood River, land is becoming expensive but depending where, you can find a good deal.

You'll love it! I'm trying to get back to the NW myself as I lived there for only three years and didn't get enough.

Re: Oregon Question

i'm in southern oregon. unless you have to, don't come here. LOL. we were just recently ranked the most expensive place to live in the state (based on home prices). medford has the highest median home prices in the entire state... which is crazy considering you're comparing that to a major city like portland. the jobs here simply don't pay enough to support the cost of living. it's a bad situation. the thing we have going for us is the weather. lot dryer here than in the northern parts of the state.

Re: Oregon Question

We are going to look at Coos Bay. Maybe Klamath Falls. Flying into Portland and driving down the 5 freeway is what we were thinking. Thanks for the input.

Re: Oregon Question

I lived in the Coos Bay/North Bend area from '88 until '94. There are a lot of recreation activities there, beautiful coastline, the dunes, rivers, you name it. That part of Oregon has never came out of the recession from the 1980's. It is a laid back area-no "High Society", very livable though. The biggest drawback the the South Coast area-No Jobs! Well, unless you consider fast food a career...

Re: Oregon Question

man... no offense, but i was just in coos bay and wasn't at all impressed. got a great deal on my truck there from coos bay nissan (LOL)... but that was the only reason i went and i don't really plan on going back. maybe the dealership is just in a not-so-great part of town or something though. i don't know.

kfalls is nice but small town with little or no work to speak of. plan for lots of snow too.

if you're going for coast, try the brookings area. beautiful coastline. again though, as with most places in oregon... good luck finding decent work.

Re: Oregon Question

Thank you NW guys!!! We are in the position of being able to buy a decent house there and owning it with no monthly payment. It's either staying here in Cali and starting a family with monster debt, or in Oregon with almost no debt. This will be a trip to see if we would really like it.
