I just got my orders and will be moving to Norfolk in July. Any one up there and can give me some good info on the area. Where to look for homes, in what area, what kind of trails are there, where to go, where not to, etc.
Thanks ahead
Tom

Congrats on the orders. I hope they gave you what you wanted. I can't help on the area as I've only been there twice. I do know that traffic is hell no matter where you live in that area. Good luck.

In the early 80's I worked in Newport News, which is on the peninsula. The last place I lived was in Smithfield, where the hams come from. I liked that area the best, since it's out in the country. We rode dirt bikes at a place called Slade's park. The Great Dismal Swamp is close by also.
Blue Pete's was a great restaurant, but I see on the internet that it looks like it's in Virginia Beach now (used to be in Poquoson). Nags Head is a great place to go for the beach. Kitty Hawk there is where the Wright Bothers flew.
hey i'm in p'cola.. when are you moving up north? i went to school in Newport News in the late 90's. i liked living up there...

I will be moving up there in July. I have to go to school in Maine and the report to VAW120. I am on my way south for a family run then back here to start my house hunting leave. I thought I was going to have more time between so I can burn my extra leave. I have over 70 days on the books and have to get that down below 60 before Oct. (22 use or loose days).
Thanks for the heads up on some places to go and look. I'll see if I can run though those places when I get there.

no trails that i know of. make your own(just kidding) i work in portsmouth(right next door) but i live 70 miles north. to stay away from the city. plus i already have a bunch of land that i couldnt afford anywhere else. i assume you will be at naval station norfolk. if you dont like traffic(im sure you dont) then find a place on the southside(avoid all tunnels) Va. beach has alot of nice places to live. Kempsville, indianriver area is nice. around ferrell pkwy.Ocean View is close but real shady. hope that helps. slades park is still in suffolk if you ride dirtbikes or 4 wheelers.
