Disconnecting the battery will not remove the timing advance... no matter how long you leave it disconnected... neither will resetting the ECU. The only way is with the Consult or Cipher software and laptop.
i had mine disconnected for over 3 days and my advance is still there. i tried to mention this as well. but supposedly shailey on CT is the god of titans and his word is gospel.

I guess my question is does it really matter? The timing advance only advances idle timing correct? Its seems as though the ecu will pull timing when it senses detonation, and supposedly I heard this piggyback will sense knock and cause the ecu to pull timing ( who knows if this is true) and one last thing...if nissan ecu only allows timing to be advanced 2 degrees wouldnt that be in an allowable tolerance? I think I remember my timing being at like 15 degrees and having it advanced to 17 ( does that sound realistic?) but couldnt someone elses stock be at 14 and advanced to 16, so what difference would it make if you had the piggyback? I think Stillen is just being fail-safe and telling everyone to remove the advance. Also I had my battery disconnected for a week while my truck was in the body shop and it doesnt feel like I have the "jump" that I had with the two degree advance but I'm gonna take it to the stealer to verify once I get my rear axle seals replaced.
Yes the 2 degrees really matters. IF Stillen has made the VK as extreme as I think they have based upon the HP/TQ claimed then I'd say that the extra +2 (which goes across the entire rpm range) would definitely cause the motor to detonate in certain loads based upon my experiences with tuning my truck.
I'd use branded gas 93 and get yourself a knock light or build yourself a knock detection device so you can monitor your truck. Stillen is not being fail safe they are being pleasantly adamant about removing the +2.
Maybe this was asked before and I missed it….is this VKPro unit good for towing a boat/trailer?

I'll guess I'll wait a bit, at 700 bucks Plus having to use premium fuel that's more like 1000 bucks for the first year and another 300 or so every year after. Lots of cash for some extra ponies... I think I may go with the uprev option, much cheaper and you have the option of map switching.

Beating a Dodge is like banging a fat chick - Everyone can do it but who wants to brag about it?
Well what I read before and I cant remember if it was here or CT was that the VKPRO will fail safe if it senses detonation.... and also would that mean that all titan ecu's come with the exact same idle timing? I seem to remember when a bunch of us got the timing advance...some peoples were at like 14 and other were at like 16 ...so if you were on the low end and got it advanced to some peoples baseline how would that hurt with the VKPRO. I guess you would have to know the baseline of the test truck that stillen tuned. Why would nissan want to be able to adjust timing +/- 2 degrees ?
I think that the +/- 2 degrees is probably a tolerance setpoint for nissans baseline ecu map, which we know that based on driving habits the map will 'learn' a new curve but either way timing will be pulled when detonation is sensed. What about the up-rev tuning..do they take off the 2 degree advance because I havent heard anyone say anything about that. I know they replace the ecu maps and allow you to select between them...but for their gains you have the option of a higher octane tune, but I guess thats a complete re-flash so its a different ballgame. I guess my point is there a variances in everything so I'm having a hard time getting it in my thick skull that this 2 degree thing even matters. I think 30HP/40TQ is a little high compared to all other car/truck piggybacks probably will be closer to 20/30 but hey..the higher the better!!!
In short what I'm trying to say is that when you do mods such as VKPro or UpRev that alter your timing and fuel you SHOULD take extra precautions to protect your truck.
Also If you think gas even premium is the exact same at every store everytime you buy then you need to monitor your truck.
My mindset is peace of mind as I do not want a new engine as a paper weight. So I do mods and I watch/listen/learn them. For instance everyone running boost be it nitrous, turbo or S/C should be getting regular oil reports. Blackstone has lots of oil data on these motors so I'm confident in what mine say as being on track for what's happening. Case in point I bought a AEM dryflow for my Volant the fit was tight and I was worried about whether or not the filter sealed against the tube. Well after the 5K oil report I knew I had problem...YEP TO MUCH SILICONE. The dryflow indeed was not a good match for the Volant intake system on my truck.
So end the end be invloved with your mods become one with your truck and you'll be happier in the long run.

Captn - the timing changes daily on the motor based upon weather and data the ECU reads. The variations you saw could easily been someone changing fuel. For instance they run 87 all the time and before the meet they dropped in 93 cause they knew they might dyno and might get better numbers. Intake air temps change the timing some of those guys probably had stock boxs, AEM and or Volants right? Different idle settings change timing...I can go on and on.
Hope this helps...?

Will the VKPRO affect our mpg at all? Should we expect a decrease in mpg?
Who cares, I WANT MY CHIP, SHIP ME MY CHIP, WHERE IS MY CHIP. Sorry had to vent, lol.

so being that i've never looked/searched/or wondered where the ecu is, where the hell is it and just how easy (stillen says 30 minutes) is this going to be?

The ECU(ECM) is right next to your fuse box under the hood.
