must have been downtown. I have not been in downtown Austin in well over 5 yrs. I have everything I need up north in Round Rock. When I used to go to 6th street regularly, parking under the bridge in front of the police station was always a no-no, because the guys would help you find a parking spot and expect payment in return, otherwise they'd break into your car and take what they wanted. That and the fact that they openly sold crack under there, in front of all the cops that were coming and going from the police station LOL those 'crackheads' are what makes 6th street a non-desireable place to go anymore. I'll just leave that the idiot college students that wanna be 'cool' and walk around drunk off their a$$ all the time. Austin definately isn't the city it used to be....

Yeah, that's about where both incidents occured. I feel better when I get up around RR or so, or down to San Marcos.

yeah RR isn't so bad, although a few gangs had a shootout across the street from Dell about 6-9 months ago, atleast it was at 2a and not 2p

And this is different than I-10 or I-45 in Houston how? Gimme a break.

BTW...I go downtown all the time and don't have any problems. It is well known the weirdos are down by the police station, so just don't go down there and everything will be good.

As for Round Rock, I guess it's okay if you want to live in Anywheresville, USA...

Yeah true, this is turning into Houston vs. Austin.

I lived in Sugar Land for a few years when I was younger. I have way, way more hair raising stories about living in the Houston area than I do about living here.

The thing is, if you live in a suburb of Houston, you can stay there and never have to see the rest of Houston if you are the family, stay at home type, which I am not.

Not Houston vs. Austin. I just don't like Austin. Yeah, I don't go to certain parts of Houston either.

I have no idea where the police station is. These happened on I-35, the first at a gas station, the second outside of a restaurant.

The police station is at 7th & I-35. Near the 6th Street entertainment district.

You probably stopped at I-35 and Rundberg for gas...lol!!

Oh well, as wrong as you are, I'm glad somebody doesn't like Austin. People need to stop moving here.

I honestly have no idea where that is. That's the problem with going somewhere you don't know. Freakin hoodlums! They're everywhere!

If you don't know where 7th and I35 is, then you have no business being in Austin.

Whenever I've been in Houston, everything has been fine. I've stayed mainly up in The Woodlands, but that's almost like being in Westlake in Austin LOL

I've never had any problems whenever I have gone downtown Austin, but then again I've lived here most of my life and you learn just like any other US city where you can and cannot go risk wise. Most of the time in Austin no one will mess with you, but then again that's true of almost any city. You really have to shoot your mouth off downtown to have someone mess with you, otherwise everyone just does their own thing. Yeah RR can be anywheresville USA but its no different than the suburbs of Houston (i.e. Katy or Spring).

Oh well to each their own - and YES to Brons comment - people need to stop moving here.

I don't go to Austin much. I didn't before my bad experiences and I still don't. Just don't have any reason to go there. One of these days we will take the kids to the capital, but otherwise anything we go to is outside of Austin proper.

I grew up in The Woodlands area and live in Cy-Fair now. Lots of people, but still decent areas for safety of the family. I know people at work that live in neighborhoods where gunfire isn't all that uncommon.

As for shooting the mouth off, I don't do that in public. I just don't need that kind of trouble. Both of my incidents were dudes lookin for cash and approached us uninvited in an aggressive demeanor that wasn't like the common beggars I have had to deal with here in Houston, Waco, and many other places.

As for people moving to Austin, I'll keep my fingers crossed for both of y'all!
