This may be a tad off topic, but since it is in Texas, figured I'd post it. Those of you that live outside of Austin but are familar enough to know about The Oasis on Lake Travis - it burned to the ground this morning due to an apparent lightning strike. All 40 decks are gone and not really that much left other than the frame of one of the newer buildings and a few tables. A true Texas hill country tourist attraction gone until the owner rebuilds, which he has already said there is no question about doing it.

Actually as we call it here, the UN-American Statesman :P
As was said, it is a sad time in Austin right now. Aggie just look at it like this - it's almost like the Dixie Chicken burning down in CS LOL

I saw some pictures of it burning. Crazy. I've never eaten there, but my finacee was pushing it as a place to have our rehearsal dinner. I didn't want to because I heard the food was just so-so. I guess I won that arguement! Seriously though, thats a shame, but I've heard the owner is super rich and has already said he'd rebuild. You know that old wooden cash cow was insured out the wazoo.

Personally I think if you are gonna build a resturant out of wood then you are just asking for it to burn to the ground. One of the girls at work was just there this weekend and apparently made the comment to her friends/family that it would suck if that place got hit by lightning - uhm JINX. So really doesn't surprise me it burned to the ground..I figured it would be either that or there would be a deck collapse there
I haven't eaten there in a long time, but I've also heard that the food wasn't as good as it used to be.
