I've been wanting to do this since i bought my truck, just been laaaaaaaaaazy
I have power steps to install soon, and will have to break into the wiring then, so i'll probably run the wires back into the tailgate and do this at the same thing. Supposed to be super easy to do

The only difficult parts of the mod are mounting the lock actuator perfectly so it works smoothly and making the connection between the lock actuator and the tailgate lock latch arm.
I just did this Tailgate Power lock mod and found a much easier way to mount the actuator and to make the linkage work.
I had a hell of time trying to make the linkages work as shown in the pics...it would never pull smoothly on the tailgate lock lever. I also could not see how the actuator could mount as shown, since it would interfere with the right side tailgate latch rod??
I eventually found a much easier way to do this.
You just use the actuator rod that comes with the power lock unit and bend it as shown in my pics below. It works very smoothly and mounts very solid with no interference of other parts.
I drilled three holes in the lock latch arm, but you only need one. I made three so I could find the one which would allow the smoothest operation. The lock latch arm is easily removed and replaced by sliding an E-Clip on and off...just don't lose it.
Then you just mount the actuator directly to the tailgate. No strapping needed. Just take your time aligning the holes before drilling. I held my lock actuator in place with a large spring clamp and operated it before I drilled any holes.
Thanks to the original posters of this mod...It's a very convenient thing to have!!
they say there's no such thing as a stupid question, but i was a bit tired after working a 16 hour day...and now re-reading my post after a little bit of rest...i think it was a stupid question.
