Question Cruise Control Problems

Here's the deal...

I have a 2007 Titan XE with 85000 miles. At times, the cruise control works just fine. Other times, not.

This is what it does when it "acts up" :

Sometimes, the cruise will seem like it just is not going to turn on. Several presses of the on button is required for the dash indicator to light. Other times, it lights up with the first press.

Sometimes, it will work just fine until I have it disengaged (still turned on). Then it will flash the set light. When it does this, it will not set. Sometimes, the flashing starts as soon as I try to turn the cruise on.

It may go days or weeks working like it should, then act up this way all the time.

If I turn the truck off (while driving down the road) and re-start it, this will usually reset it to work, but it will stop working again when I an stopped at a light or otherwise stopped (not all the time - only sometime)

It does throw a Cruise Control error code. However, a mechanic I know said it could be something other than the cc module - then again, it could be the module.

Anyone else have this situation? Any ideas?

Thnx

Didn't mean to stump everyone ...

Still have the problem. One of these days I will figure it out.

Re: Cruise Control Problems

I just dealt with the same situation, took it to the dealership and they replaced the cruise control switch. Works fine now.

Do you mean the switch in the steering wheel?

With 86000+ miles, don't think mine is under waranty anymore. Any idea how much the repair cost?

Re: Cruise Control Problems

Have the same problem with mine. It started out exactly as you described, intermittent and usually could be reset by turning off the ignition switch. Eventually it continued to happen more frequently and then just stopped working altogether.

Re: Cruise Control Problems

Ok, I think I just fixed it. I found a TSB on 2004 Titans that says to adjust the ASCD cancel switch to correct inoperative cruise controls. This is the switch that cancels cruise when you touch the brake pedal. I have a 2006 but I disconnected both switches above the brake pedal and the cruise turned on normally. When I reconnected them it still turned on correctly. The ASCD switch is the one with the brown wiring harness connector. I'll see how long it works now but it looks like there are some up/down adjustments on the switch itself that could be adjusted if needed. I'm not sure how it would be adjusted though because the cruise will turn on when the brake pedal is depressed. I guess if it acts up again I'll play with it.

Re: Cruise Control Problems

I have a 2006 Titan. My cruise control was flashing and not working. I hooked up my Bully Dog and it found and cleared an unknown code. The cruise control is working again. Thanks Bully Dog.

Re: Cruise Control Problems

Happen to me as well ... It was a bad switch replaced under warranty so I do not know the cost.

Re: Cruise Control Problems

I have a 2007 Titan LE with a similar cruise control problem. When turned on, the CC light is illuminated on the dash but the CC will not engage when I try to set the desired speed. Going to try adjusting the ASCD switch as suggested...wish me luck!

Re: Cruise Control Problems

Thanks to all for your input, I also have a 2007 Titan, same as described, works when it wants to, today on the road it did not want to work at all, I will try to mess with the ASCD as well.

Thanks again

Re: Cruise Control Problems

Anybody still following this thread? I have the exact same problem...sometimes it works and at other times have to push the on button a bunch of times and then the set light flashes and nothing works. Did the switch off the brake fix work long term?

Thanks

Fixed mine easy, you have to go to the brake pedal. Look on the brake pedal and there should be two "sensors" that press up against the pedal when you're NOT applying the brakes. When you push the brake pedal, these "sensors" have a rod that will come out of them, thus giving the "ok" sign for the brake lights to come on, or for you to be able to use cruiser control. Find the TOP sensor, spray a LITTLE WD-40. A LITTLE. IT IS ELECTRONIC PARTS!!!! Start the truck. Hit the cruise button. If the cruise light comes on, you're on the right track. Now you HAVE TO DRIVE for the "set" option to work. So go out get to 40+ then hit "cruise", then "set." Let off the gas. The cruise and set light should be illuminated on the instrument panel. You should also be cruising. Hit brakes, and the "set" light on instrument panel should come off. Hope this helps! Had this problem today. Fixed today. If it doesn't work. Might want to consider the other posts for replacing parts. Hope it helps!

Re: Cruise Control Problems

Having same thing, seems as if key cycling will clear it often, looked at the switch for brake pedal, looks as if can be adjusted to make sure opens and closes, however can not tell exactly how to do it, possibly squeeze tabs on geared area, but do not want to get rough with it..I added some dense foam on the brake arm to fully close the switch..........Still getting SET flashing often, Local dealer says 90% that switch is faulty. My question is >>if working correctly shouldn't the coast/set slow and then if want to resume or speed up , do so ?? seems as if my steering wheel switch is more likely to be bad, any details on how to trouble shoot ? Seems as if I saw an exact method on this forum ? But can not find again again thanks for any help
