Its about that time to change out the tranny fluid in the Titan, about 40,000 miles on her now and I am wondering if anyone let any outside shop flush the transmission?
Dealer wants $200 for the service and I have heard that using another source for this service may be harmful because of the different tranny fluids that have been flushed over time.

IIRC there was a TSB out to NOT do a Flush and just do a drain and refill. This has been discussed many times on here.
Thanks, I searched before I posted and say the threads but was confused b/c some were flush and some were drain. I would do it myself but I don't have the time at the moment with a 2 year old and a pregnant wife.

Thats good to know, I might let a trusted shop do mine then since Nissan only flushes and fills.
The TSB was specific to aftermarket flushes, not all flushes, so if your dealer offers a Nissan-approved flush (Which should be a fluid exchange, powered by the trans pump) then you should be ok. At the very least, if you do have problems afterward the dealer would have to fix it since they should only be doing Nissan-approved maint. A drain and full should be sufficient, especially if you haven't done much towing.

I'm a few thousand miles from the 40K mark, and looking to do service on the transmission as well. Dealer quoted me $$229.95 for both transmission and coolant fluid service. I asked the service advisor if the transmission was a flush or drain and fill and he said drain and fill. Does the price sound fair? I got quoted about $90 for just the coolant service at firestone.
I want to get both done at the dealership since I believe that will show up on carfax if I ever decided to sell the Titan. Puts a history in there that the truck was up to maintenance.
The transmission drain and fill was 141.95 at the dealer. Since I learned it was just a drain and fill I will probably do myself eventhough I take it to get the oil changed.

The price sounds about right, the reason it's so much is the Fluid. That crap aint cheap at all. IIRC it was $25 or so a bottle and you need 4-5 bottles of the Matic S ( new Matic J )
Even at the discounted price I got it for it was around $17 or $18 a bottle, def. not cheap!
The drain and fill seems good. Its alot cheaper. Were are the TSB info? I been looking on the site without having alot of luck. I agree with the other user there is alot of info on transmission- some of it not so hot some of it is great. Any secrets to doing the change yourself?
my trusted havoline guy did the drain and fill on mine when he did my last oil change.. paid 150 for the oil change + drain and fill. the dealership wanted 450, and another wanted $600!... both were quotes as part of the "30k mile checkup"... again.. my havoline guy did all the things on the list for 150...

I'm just under 90k miles on my 04 and I had a tranny flush and full 4x4 service (front, back, and transfer case diff fluid changed) on Friday from the dealer and they charged me just under $400.
Pricey but I'm totally worthless at this type of thing so paying the money to have it done correctly is worth it to me. Also got new tires the next day so I spent close to $1200 on the titan in two days.
