Front pinion seal.....

I took my Titan in for service today (oil change). Asked the tech to take a look at the front differential because there was some fluid on it. He did and called me back saying that the front pinion seal was the culprit; they are replacing that under warranty. I had the entire transmission replaced under warranty about 6 months agao. There is still a definitive clunk when going from start to stop or hard breaking. Could that have been from the pinion seal leaking? I still think it might be my rear differential, but not sure.

They have suggested an induction service to clean out the carbon, etc. It costs 189 dollars. Anyone think this is worth it?

Thaks in advance,
Shawn

Talking Re: Front pinion seal.....

This is gonna sound goofy...but, do you have your plastic rail covers in the bed rails? I took mine in for "clunking" and they replaced the rear end with the new model. Then, it was doing it again. I took it to a new dealership and they discovered that my rail covers were sliding forward and hitting the front of the bed occassionally on braking. That was 30K ago and no problems with the rear end since taking the rail covers out....just a thought.

Re: Front pinion seal.....

My pinion seal blew out and had to be replaced and there was never any clunking or unusual performance. If it weren't for the puddle underneath, I would've never known.

Ditto. The only time a front axle would clunk, if it was going to, would be in 4wd. If there is no power to it, it just spins.
