Winter time! Few questions about switching 2wd/4wd.

I have an '04 Titan SE.
I like to be on 2wd to save gas and to have some extra fun on the snow, but I also like to keep it on 4wd to be safe and not to take 5 minutes to get the T moving from a stop.

My question is, does it hurt the truck at all to keep switching around 2wd and 4wd all the time?
Also, how slow should u be going before u switch? And do u really have to keep the wheels straight when you do so?

I'm just getting paranoid because today when I switched it to 4wd and hit the gas, something was grinding.

And I got one more question, is it bad for the transmission to drift in the snow too much? Since it is unnatural spinning of the wheels?

I'm sorry for all the questions but I just wanna keep my Titan in great health.

Constant switching from between 2wd and 4wd isn't going to really save you any gas... only if you drive long durations / distances in 4wd will you lose mileage... and it shouldn't hurt the transfer unless you don't completely engage or disengage before doing major acceleration and turning... switching in 4Hi can be done up to 55mph with no problems (I've done it numerous times)... keeping the wheels straight definitely helps the smooth disengagment... don't know about drifting in snow, haven't tried it yet, but I would imagine it shouldn't hurt the tranny, just keep an eye on the temps... take some pics and vids, then post them for us to check out... oh yeah, watch out for those small trees and buried tree trunks too (snow off-road experience I had while growing up in Michigan) just cause you don't see it, doesn't mean it's not there lol...
