water dripping from tail pipe??

Hello, I have a 2008 Titan. It has 11,000 miles on it. Ever since I have bought it, it has dripped water out of the tail pipe upon starting it up. It will drip for about 3-5 minutes and then stop. I have heard of condensation, but this seems like a lot. It leaves a wet circle on the ground. The truck runs perfect and when done driving no longer drips. I work in town and this truck does not get out of town and on the highway that much. Maybe once a week. Any ideas, is this normal? Thanks in advance!

It's "NORMAL" and if you look under your truck there are weep holes in other exhaust areas that do the same thing on start/warm-up.

Isn't water a by-product of the catalytic converter?

The by-products of comlete hydrocarbon combustion are carbon dioxide and water. Since no engine is capable of complete combustion, the cats convert carbon monoxide into less toxic CO2.

To the OP, when the truck is cold, the water that the engine produces condenses inside the cool muffler and tailpipes. That's what you see dripping. Once the exhaust system gets hot, it leaves through the exhaust as water vapor (steam).

Constant short trips = exhaust rusts out quicker

Such is life.

Re: water dripping from tail pipe??

it's condensation, like if you breathe onto glass in the cold it fogs up, like that but the exhaust is alot hotter than your breath thus forms water vapor, hence why all vehicles under the sun "smoke" in the winter the first few minutes driving down the road. It's just condensation and is completely normal. All vehicles do it.

Re: water dripping from tail pipe??

Check the weep holes Honeykeeper mentioned. They might be clogged which would build up more condensation in the exhaust, instead of draining out normally.

I hope that your Tail Pipe doesn't have any leak by now. Try to regularly mantain your car in order to really have a good performance for the long run.

Re: water dripping from tail pipe??

I just swapped my valve covers and gaskets and I noticed it too, from both pipes, and a lot. I will keep an eye on it, everything else seems pretty normal

Huh?

Must be true, right? I mean all those other manufacturers are retarded for making their motors cut off cylinders on the freeway when we all need massive amounts of HP for maintaining 65mph..

Re: water dripping from tail pipe??

At least we don't have hydraulic lifter issues like Ram and Chevy.
