Therefore, it is not a great added expense to fuel up once a week on premium, maybe an extra $5 or something. I think for premium I pay an extra $ 0.20 / gal, so no big deal.

All of my toys require premium gas as well, so when I hit the gas station on the way out of town for the weekend, I fill up the quads, all the gas jugs, and the truck at the same pump on the same gas card. It's just easier... Maybe I'm just lazy.

btw, the dealership should not recommend a lower grade of gas. The owner's manual says "minimum octane requirement" is 87, but it doesn't say that you shouldn't use anything higher. I have always thought that a vehicle will run better on better gas, UNLESS the vehicle was specifically engineered to run on ONLY a lower grade of gas and a higher gas grade would damage the motor, which is not the case on a Titan, as far as I have been told.

My gas card only works at ARCO and that is crappy gas anyways, I'm sure the premium gas I get there is only maybe 89 in reality
burning premium will not make your truck run stronger unless you have your computer retuned for the slightly higher octane. adding higher octane gas to a car not tuned for it creates more crud build-up in your engine since it will not burn completely to the extent that regular would. using any higher octane then whats reccomended isnt a good idea in most driving conditions. unless you have too much money.

I was getting around 14.5 around town and highway, got about 8 pulling my 6000# toyhauler, my owner's manual states that I should be running a minimum of 91 octane, but I have been running 87. What's the deal? I'm not paying 2.53 a gallon for 91

So far you are the only one that has a manual that says anything other than 87. Where did you get your Titan?

You seem to be having a series of strange things happening to you.

When I get the truck back (hopefully in a couple of weeks), I will look again but I think it said the research octane was minimum 91 octane

nope

In your defense, there was a brochure/literature that did incorrectly state premium a long time ago.

From the owners manual:

FUEL RECOMMENDATION
Use unleaded regular gasoline with an octane rating of at least 87 AKI (Anti-Knock Index) number (Research octane number 91).

Also from the owners manual:

Fuel 28 gal Unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of at least 87 AKI (RON 91)

Octane rating tips

In most parts of North America, you should use unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of at least 87 AKI (Anti-Knock Index) number. However, you may use unleaded gasoline with an octane rating as low as 85 AKI (Anti-Knock Index) number in high altitude areas [over 4,000 ft (1,219 m)] such as: Colorado, Montana, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming, northeastern Nevada, Southern Idaho, western South Dakota, western Nebraska, and the part of Texas which is directly south of New Mexico.

I don't even know what a Research octane number is but all gas pumps use the AKI number anyway.

In CA. they use the research octane number? Just got fuel yesterday in my wife's car and checked to make sure.

Then you should be getting 87 octane / 91 RON, right? Anything higher and you are wasting your money and possibly damaging your engine.

My mpg is the worst. I put about 200 miles a day on the truck. And about 150 of them are hwy. always at the gas station. I never calculated it out, but im guessing I get about 250 miles/tank. It only has 700 miles on the odometer now. will gas mileage improve as the engine becomes more broken in? Heard some people say it will, but im still not sure. They never gave any proof. Anyway, there is no way im getting the gas mileage on the sticker. feels more like 10 city/12 hwy. I dont drive with the ac and Im starting to keep the tailgate down on the hwy. I think it helps.

road trip - mpg

Had a 4 day weekend over Mother's Day and took a 1300+ mile trip.
On a couple of tanks of pure 75-80 mph driving, averaged 17.1 mpg.
On another tank, had about 180 miles of just going 50-60 mph. Averaged 18.8 mpg on that tank. This is with the A/C running the whole time.
Truck rode and drove great. Went over 8000 miles while on the trip.

Finally filled up my CC LE 4x4 no tow or off road, only 400 miles on it (dealer did 200 of that) and I cal'd 14.4 for a 50/50 highway/city running. Will be doing a long highway trip soon and will see how that goes.

Just passed 700 miles on my titan and on my last tank i was getting 14 mpg. That was ALL city. I expect once she gets broken in, i should get at least 15 -- maybe towards 16 if im lucky. Thats right about what i expected. I'm used to that with my expedition i was getting about 16. At about 20000 miles on the expy it went up and usually was getting about 345-365 on one tank of gas -- about 26 gallons ( 30 gallon tank ) so as i said if i can get 15 mpg with my titan that should give me about the same gas milage. If that happens ill be more than happy. Now, if i can only learn to just control the urge to hit the gas and feel that power............... Sometimes you just cant help yourself though...

Miles on truck now : 10091
Temp when filling truck up today: 105 degrees!
Cost to put the 22.32 gallons in : $48.00!
Any change on your numbers to date? I installed the K&N drop-in yesterday and my NAV info went from about 356 to 382 miles to empty. MPG went from 15.1 to 17.5. I am wondering why the drastic jump. My TITAN is also exhibiting an "upbeat" attitude since yesterday.
