Changed oil this weekend

Hello all,

Changed the oil in the tank this week and went with Valvoline 5w30. I've never ran Valvoline in any of my vehicles but have heard no bad things about the oil. Is it a decent oil? My friend is a big motor head and that's all he said he uses or will ever use. Does anyone use Valvoline or do they have any recomendations? Any help would be appreciated.

I run valvoline in my Titan and SUV. I have used it for the last 15 years and seems to be good. I had a nissan hardbody that I used Valvoline in for the 10 years I owned the vehicle. Had over 100,000 miles on it before I sold it and didn't use any oil. I changed it every 3,000 miles, except once. I got some good advice on this forum about having your oil tested by www.blackstone.com. I am going to have mine tested when it has over 7,000 miles to see how the numbers look on the valvoline oil. Seems like Chevron has been mentioned on this forum alot. There is one guy on this forum who seems to know alot about oil. You may want to do a search and read thoses threads. This forum is great.

Chevron 5W-30 did well in the tests, but is impossible to find. I am using Halvoline 5W-30 as testing similar to Chevron, but available at Wal-Mart. I think the main thing is use some decent oil and change it at 3,000 miles and avoid alot of short stop & go trips, if possible. I have done that with every vehicle and put 225,000 miles on a Toyota Tacoma, Subaru Legacy, and Honda Accord. None were using any oil when sold. The tiny little Nissan filter for the Titan futher motivates me to change oil & filter regularly at 3K

Try checking Checkers auto parts if you have one near by. They seem to carry the Chevron brand. That's where I am finding mine.
