carbon cleaner

hey guys, i just wanted to know what would be a good interval for using carbon cleaner. I was thinking every 6k miles (every other oil change). my brother's going to school to be a mechanic, and he said that while this can help with engine life, doing it too much could strip the chemicals that bond to the internals. Does anyone with a better knowledge of this stuff know what kind of interval would be good?

How about never? Robert Sikorsky in "Drive It Forever" says don't do it.

He had a long running automotive column and wrote a few books. You can find it at www.amazon.com I have read where he was quoted by some pretty prominent mechanics/car experts. In addition to "Drive it Forever" he had another famous book on break-in, something like "Break It In Right" or something like that. If you search for him as author at amazon.com I think you will find these books. The main point of "Drive It Forever" was to change all the fluids & filters frequently.

i didn't look to any outside sources for a break in period, just did what the manual said-"don't run over 4k rpm, don't stay at a certain speed too long", etc. i'm planning to change the oil soon (almost at 4k miles), probably every 3k miles.
