Boy Hawkeye, you really don't miss a thing do you? I am new to this forum and new to online discussion forums. I joined this forum to try to find out more about my truck which I have not had any problem with except for the whole radio trebel fade thing going on. I am simply offering an opinion, not holding a gun to someone's head so chill ok. You don't have to be rude to people because they are new at this.

Uh, I honestly wasn't trying to be rude or short dude, just meant that it was pretty obvious you were only looking at this one page of a multi-page thread. So if you read from the first post to this page you would get a better background of what is being talked about here. Sorry , really didn't mean to sound rude.
No problem, but I am not a dude, more like a dudette. There are alot more issues to this Titan and the towing capacity also. I have been on the phone with Nissan for two days trying to find a resolution and finally got one (not one that I really care for, but a fix none the less). I will post this info seperately so I don't butt into the ongoing conversation.

LOL, sorry Tracey, I didn't notice that. Do a search for your problem- you will most probably find a better solution on here than from the dealer.
Nissan says I need new drive shaft propeller bearings. Can't seem to get them after 45 days - so I filed for Lemon Law because of this and about 15 other problems with the truck.
And this is my SECOND Titan!
Not going to get a 3rd.
Ya, I understand your pain, I have gone through six of em'. I enjoy it though, its like I can bag the crap outta it and then just declare the lemon law and get a new one. Man Nissan is dumb. I think they were going to start to give away free coupons for Titans, all the first year models I heard, maybe there is a TSB on it. I can't stand the fact that my window jumps when I roll it up and down. I need to take that in to the dealer again cause' they haven't got it to the 'smoothness' level I am used to, maybe three or four more times should get er' just right. They dont mind though cause' they like my complaining and they know that Nissan will just keep giving me trucks until I am a happy customer.
I have the same "clunk" on my Tahoe (99 Early Yr Model, 5.8L, 2WD, 68K miles). The first time I took it to the dealer, they loaded the spline with grease, good for about 500 miles. Tallking to other mechanics, it dosen't hurt the tranny or the rear end. Drive my wife nuts every time she hears it!

JetTech,
I know I am late in the "game" to try this fix, and while I did not have the "clunk" others complained about (maybe I did and just didn't hear it), I did have some mild rear wheel hop when breaking heavily, especially when towing a heavy load. After reading all of your posts on this subject, I finally worked up the nerve to add the leaf spring helpers to my Titan (I ended up using the Superior brand because I couldn't find the Dynachrome locally). I found your detailed instructions very easy to follow.
I have now tested the truck (without a load) on corners, on several washboard roads and in heavy breaking and I am very impressed with the results. Later this week, I am pulling my heavy duty trailer and tractor to my place in central Texas (about 275 miles) so it should get a good test with a heavy load. I'll report the results next week when I return. Thanks again JetTech!!

i installed the helper springs and it fixed the clunk probelm, but i started having a 'rattle' when i would hit small, close together, bumps. at first i thought it might be another "nissan" rattle, but to be safe i tightened the helper springs as much as i could (about another 1/2 turn was all i could get), however the rattle was still there. i took off the helper springs and the rattle disappeared.
has any one else had this issue? what did you do? i like not having the clunk, but not at the expense of another rattle.
thanks!

If you had the helper springs tightened all the way (fully compressing the leaf springs) the only thing that I can think of that might make any sound is if the ends of the helpers are too far foward, causing them to tap on the stock leaf spring bushing region when you go over bumps, or if for some other reason the end of the helper spring at the weak bracket is for some reason tapping on the OEM leaf springs. Take a look at JetTech's photos in post #31 of this thread to see if this might have been the case, regarding helper spring positioning. There was a post where one guy made a better bracket to replace the weak bracket on the helper springs.

When I first installed my Superior leaf spring helpers, I noticed the front hangar bolts for the helper springs, when tightened, were very close to the truck frame-- in fact I worried that on rough roads the end of the hangar bolt might contact the frame and make a noise. To fix this I went to the parts store and picked up some washers and installed them just behind the head of the hangar bolt to give me more clearance between the end of the bolt and the frame. If yours was as close as mine to the frame, that might be the problem.

WOW ... You guys hear a clunk ? ... imagine my pain ... all the factory axle wrap multiplied by a 4" lift block !!! We have gone round and round and the next step is (I mean was) making some ladder bars. I will try this tonight and if it works, there will be a $25 tab for JetTech at his local bar !!!

Heeeeeeyyy, now we're talking. BEER MONEY....woooohooooo
I sure hope they work for you because my "low beer level light" is glaring right now. As a matter of fact I'm fairly sure they will. I've been hoping someone would put these on a lifted Titan just to see.
Actually to everyone else out there, I've received numerous PM's on this topic and how it works on other vehicles besides the Titan. So if your experiencing axle wrap or wind up on another family vehicle that uses leaf springs for the rear axle, give'em a try, I bet they work.
