Re: Drive train clunk

Thanks, I just installed mine. Left the spacer rivets out. They really do work great! I had a noticable bounce at exactly 45 mph. I thought it was just the way my tires were wearing. But it only bounced at 45 mph. Now, with the helper springs installed, no bounce! Smooth as it can be. Just this alone is worth the 25 bucks to me!

Re: Drive train clunk

I installed the helper springs with the spacer rivets at "max" setting. No problems.I am not sure how much of a difference the spacers make... They (the springs) do seem to help with the "clunk"...

Re: Drive train clunk

Hey Guy's
About this helper spring instal... Im looking at the pic's and comparing to my 2005 K/C and I see I have 4 leaf springs and the pic shows 3 leaf springs with a real short spring on the bottom. My 4th leaf spring is much longer on mine and hings down about 1 1/2" lower than the next spring. Did they make a change in the rear springs for the 05s?

Thanks
Rocky

Re: Drive train clunk

They look good! Here's my situation....I bought a weight dist. hitch to use with my 6300lb trailer. Works well so if I put those springs on will I have to re adjust the dist. hitch? It was a pain to adj. when I first put it on.

Re: Drive train clunk

I wouldn't think so. Doesn't change the height in the rear

Re: Drive train clunk

Finally just got reading thru all these posts. I have the same kind of clunking movement when accelerating from a dead stop. Can't hear anything just feel a little clunk. How about using traction bars instead of these springs? Will the benifits be the same? Also for you guys that did this in 2004 (helper springs), that is when this post started, how is everything now? Still normal? Thanks for any input.

Re: Drive train clunk

Just had the same problem. Come to find out Rear transmission mounting bracket was broken in half on my titan. Part cost about a bill plus labor. You can check by putting your truck on a lift and prying the trans up from the mounting bracket. Hopes this helps.

Question Re: Drive train clunk

Just installed a set of NAPA leaf spring helpers today (after reviewing this 2 year old thread), but I still hear the clunking noise when accelerating from a dead stop (especially in the morning when leaving for work).

Maybe I don't have the bolts tight enough. Can someone who has installed this kit and successfully eliminated the clunking noise let everyone else know how much to torque the nuts on the U-bolt? Once the kit has been installed, should the factory leaf springs be totally compressed/flat? I believe that I have 6 threads visible on the bolts that secure the u-bolt to the leafs.

I am crossing my fingers that I don't have a broken rear transmission mounting bracket like the previous guy who posted his comments above.

Also, sometimes I hear a clicking noise, which seems to be originating from the center console shifter (don't have the column shifter). This seems more prevalent during "stop and go" situations (like in traffic or going through the drive-through at a fast food restaurant).

Does anyone know about this issue, and if so, is there a fix for this as well?

Re: Drive train clunk

triadpc - are you sure the clunk from a stop isn't this?
Noise at 10mph

And your shifter problem might be this?
Click from the shifter

Hope this helps?

Re: Drive train clunk

Hi travism,

This sounds exactly like the issues I'm experiencing.

I will pull the ABS fuse out this weekend to see if the clunking noise goes away. If not, I'm starting to get worried given the tranny and rear end issues that I've been seeing on this forum for the 04's and 05's.

Thanks again for this information!

I would think the traction bars would be the way to go. I have had the helpers on for a long time w/o problems. I am thinking about having traction bars + Deaver pack + TruTrac installed when they get the TruTrac perfected.
