I meant why don't all Titans do it? I have driven 3 other ones with 2wd and tow package just like mine. They are as tight as can be. You hit the gas and they takes off no hesitation, no clunk just smooth power. That's what has me stumped, if it is a weak design why don't they all do it? It just seems that there could be something that we have overlooked causing it to be more noticeable in some.
Mine seems to have gone away. It was noticible for the first 1000 miles or so, but now I'm at 2000 and don't seem to notice it. Or maybe I'm used to it.

well everyone your not alone i hear on ocasion, as for a buddy of mine here heres it all the time also, as for it being the utilitrac covers..i will say this i purchased my titan with out the bet utlity system....and i hear it. but some of think it my be the gas tank, check to see if the "clunk" get worse or better with the anount of fuel in the tank...

machining tolerances vary a couple of thousandths usually, if a tail shaft is at max diameter and a slip yoke is at minimum inside diameter then ther could be the possibility of too tight of a fit...
I just bought my titan 2 wks ago and have noticed a clunk in the drive train when coming to a stop, i know it isn't the brakes because if i stop with it in neutral it doesn't happen. I have a CC 4X4 LE W/big tow with 850 miles. any one else notice this? most of the time i just feel it in the pedal and body but sometimes if traffic niose is minimal you can also here it. sometimes it happens at a cruise coming off and back on to the gas.
I bought my Titan in April of '06. I started having a similar clunking sensation that began at 1200mi. I had it in one local dealership 4 times for this issue. The advisors could feel the clunk but the technicians could never seem to duplicate it. They dissassembled the rearend and inspected the drive shaft and the transmission and even lubed the yoke. They took measurements of all the driveline angles and finally gave up. I dealt with the corporate consumer line and finally ended up at another dealer (same corp. as the first) After the second trip to this dealer I was finally able to get a technician to ride with me and document that this was not a normal condition. His initial diagnosis was a bad torque converter, but after consulting his team leader decided it was in need of a new rearend assembly. Needless to say that did not fix the problem. After 6 weeks awaiting a response from engineering they claimed to finally have a fix. It ended up being a problem with the drive shaft yoke assembly. I did not fully understand what they did, but after almost 6 months and 9000 miles of fighting for a resolution, it seems the problem is resolved. Diagnosis was a binding drive shaft yoke (burred splines). I was convinced that it was in the transmission because it always seemed to take about 15 minutes of driving to start the clunking on easy take-offs and stops, but problem solved!

I have been using the search button alot lately trying to find out if what my truck is doing is normal are not.My truck is fine on take off and stops.If Im coasting and dont just ease on the gas too get moving again I hear and feel a thump,did your truck do this.I had a 4x2 that did it alittle but was hardly noticeable I wonder if its worse with the 4x4s.
I got it fixed!!! the noise was driving me nuts! anyway the noise was coming from the slip yoke on the drive shaft.
Step 1 Go to GM dealership and get Special Lube Part # 12345718
Step 2 Index and remove drive shaft (index so you don't get any vibrations)
Step 3 Lube the spines of the yoke where it goes into trans or transfer case
use a generous amount on the splines don't put any on the outside of
the yoke.
Step 4 Clean the seal surface of the yoke so you don't ruin the seal
Step 5 Re-install the drive shaft and torque the bolts to serv man spec. (don't
forget to put it in the same way it came out.

i disagree, the rear is designed to move, and so is the slip yopke, with up and down movement of the rear, this happens at takeoff... but on another note, if it is the yoke, then why dont i feel a clunk when boing over bumps (i have a couple of swoops by my house and i have watched the rear tire move considerably) that means the yoke is moving, but no clunk.

Could be the companion flange, or the front drive shaft yoke. My 04 KC clunked from day one....Service writer said normal...I said BS, this aint no Ford...and how would you say it's normal...the trucks have only been on the market for a month!
Dealer found nothing wrong, I took it to a friends driveshaft shop. Shaft was unbalanced (as was the service writer). Problem solved.
I should have added to my original post that clunk only came when in drive or reverse...and starting off from a standing stop.
An obvious driveline issue...typical of Fords with the integral rearend.
I was surprised when driveshaft was unbalanced...I figured that too much play in shaft would be the cause.
Mine is fine from a dead stop only when coasting and then getting back on the gas.I guess its axle wrap what ever that is, Ive heard alot about it on this site and seems to be common and seems to be the problem with the thump when touching the gas after coasting.
