A Toyhauler is a travel trailer and enclosed car trailer all in one. They can be up to 36 or 40' long, usually about 15-25 feet worth of living space and 15-20 feet of toy space (ATV's, bikes, etc.)
Great explanation Austin, mine is 27' long it is a Weekend Warrior FS2300 Superlite check it out at www.warriormfg.com

Austin, titansurveyor, thanks.Funny I had seen the term before, and I figured it was some sort of supersized flat, low trailer, like a supersized 4x8 Harbor Freight $249 trailer-GUESS NOT!!
Thanks,Charlie
Truck had 1400 miles on it when it went down in Flagstaff per TS's post. He's in Temecula, CA which, according to mapquest, is about 500 miles from Flag. meaning he started with 900 miles on the odo. He had about a 6000 lb load per his post. I know the approach into Flag and there's some climbing to do. Trannies of course don't need a break in like engines, but isn't 900 miles on the odo a bit soon to be making such a trip?
Again, sorry to hear of your problems TS, hope Nissan pays for your flight and expenses back to NM.
I have the same questions too. I thought that I read somewhere in the owners manual to wait until 3k miles (Nissan's rec. break in period) to start towing. Until I get to that many miles I not even buying a hitch in case I am tempted to start towing. But I could be wrong and I am usually, just ask my ex!

The owners manual says:
CAUTION
c Do not tow a trailer or haul a heavy load
for the first 500 miles (800 km). Your
engine, axle or other parts could be
damaged.
c For the first 500 miles (800 km) that you
tow a trailer, do not drive over 50 mph
(80 km/h) and do not make starts at full
throttle. This helps the engine and other
parts of your vehicle wear in at the
heavier loads.
and the break-in perions is
CAUTION
During the first 1,200 miles (2,000 km),
follow these recommendations to obtain
maximum engine performance and ensure
the future reliability and economy of
your new vehicle. Failure to follow these
recommendations may result in shortened
engine life and reduced engine
performance.
c Avoid driving for long periods at constant
speed, either fast or slow, and do not run the
engine over 4,000 rpm.
c Do not accelerate at full throttle in any gear.
c Avoid quick starts.
c Avoid hard braking as much as possible.
c Do not tow a trailer for the first 500 miles
(800 km). Your engine, axle or other parts
could be damaged.

I agree with the break in period, but his damage is alittle excessive. I think it could be what posted in general discussion about low differential fluid. I think maybe his was low, and heated up, and fried everything. Towing under recommended mileage may produce heat, and reduce life of rear, but too totally cook it with full fluid is not acceptable for any truck thats towing under proper tow rating. I would say its possible that he had a low differential fluid level as many had in the topic under general discussion, and he burnt it up cause of that. Use your warranty, and have it replaced. Should be like a brand new truck, and with the proper fluid levels it will do great.. Just my opinion, not a fact...

That it is exactly what I did, except I drove 55mph with the trailer for the first 500 miles. I hardly think 5mph is going to make that much difference.

titansurveyor,
I don't think any thing you did could have caused your rearend to go like that. I was just posting the breakin schedule. I think your taking it very well (your nightmare). I think I would be ranting and raving, hulking out, etc... oh well enough ranting... Have they gotten back to you yet with any explanation on it?

I know that you were just posting the break in schedule, actually thanks for doing so. I happen to be one of those people that read the manuals cover to cover, not everyone is like that. They are supposed to get back to me tomorrow. That is when the parts should be in, if they aren't then I will be a little upset. I told her (Renee, reliable nissan) that they have until the 22nd of this month. That is when I will be flying back there to get it. I have already purchased my plane ticket, so we'll see. I will keep you guys posted.

Talked to the dealer today, they said the parts be there Friday? What about today like they had orginally said. I called Nissan Consumer Affairs, the guy there is going to try and figure out what is going on. I'll keep you posted.

The titan is not junk, if this is your first vehicle, i can understand, but if it's not, then your threads are unjustified. anytime you introduce a completely new vehicle, in a completely new market segment, you will have teething pains. so would you please erase your negative threads?

There is no need to erase this thread.
In fact, it's allowed several other members to catch and rectify low fluid levels in their own differentials, which may have been what caused titansurveyor's rear diff to go in the first place.
Austin,Good point-I didn't read any post from other members on low diff lube levels, where are they?I will check mine in the am..How do you check the lube level in the diff?It doesn't have a dip stick,or a sight glass.I guess I could drain it,and then put in the correct amount, but there must be a more elegant way to assure that the level is correct??Thanks,Charlie

No I won't erase my thread, maybe you didn't read the whole thread. I stated that I should've titled it differently. No this is not my first vehicle. My F150 was a first year and I had no problems. Some of the people on this forum have not had any issues, as already discussed I am just unlucky. Thanks AUSTIN for your comment.

Ya know, even thought it's not too bright to buy a first model year vehicle, I seem to always do it...
I bought a 96 Toy Tacoma, first year out, first year of that engine.
I bought a 2000 Toy Tundra, first year out.
I bought a 2002 Subaru WRX, first year out (in the US).
Now the Titan... At least I waited a few months after it hit showrooms...
