Feeling a small thump while accelerating

I can feel it almost as soon as I get on the gas. Anyone else too?

I have not felt anything like that. You might want to take it to the dealer and let them test drive it to see what they say.

I feel the thump you are talking about. I made the assumption that it was normal. It feels to be around the area where the driveshaft meets the diff. im not sure thou. If you figure something out, let me know!

You don’t think this could be the rubber protectors on the utility track hitting up against the tailgate?

hey optimist, i think you may be right. After the dentist today, i mashed some old plastic cups in the end of the plastic protectors ( to stop them from sliding ) and i believe that may have been/solved my mystery clunks. I did feel a slight clunk once but that may have been from normal driving and its hard to explain that THIS time it FELT NORMAL. I guess i will find out for sure tomorrow on my way to work.... thanks for the tip. jer

I feel the same thing. Feels like driveline slop or rear suspension squat. I don't think it should be considered normal. It's very noticeable. I'll have the dealer check it out on the next oil change.

Ace -- let us know what comes of your trip to the dealer.... mine still does this and am concerned about it. I HOPE this is normal and will lessen when my truck gets broken in. Im just a bit surprised that others have not commented on this noise/thud.... i know a few have, but maybe others have this problem and know its normal and thats why there is not a lot of talk about it???? If mine continues, sometime in the summer i will take it in when i have more time and let them tell me what it is.... thanks, jer

See my thread at

http://titantalk.com/showthread.php?t=11433

Noticed the same thing. Someone theorized that it is the tranny slip fork. I don't see anything I can lubricate underneath there...

Yep, I got it too, but it's very intermittent, only on light acceleration and from a dead stop. Dealer's initial guess was rear spring wind-up, but I'm not sure I believe that. This condition is some kind of slack in the drive train. Don't think it's the utili-track covers either, since it happens sometimes when acceleration is so light, they shouldn't even be moving. Hovever, I'm going to jam those things just to confirm.

It's axle wrap.

And your diff is functioning normally giese, 4Lo operation only, up until 20 MPH. It isn't supposed to work in 2Hi or 4Hi. It's all in your owner's manual.
