I brought my 04 crew cab titan in today. I had a incident in which my rear end heated up while towing and had a slight leak on the rear dif cap. The dealership just called and said my spider gears were not as tight as they should be and that there was some play in it, that might cause it to leak, oveheat. He also noticed a clicking in it. I had never heard that before, but I'm glad they found it at 18k miles.
They are going to give my Titan a brand new 06 rear end
If anyone has issues like this please bring it in. They said they don't see many of them, but nonetheless there are a few titan's that have this issue. I'm just glad I tow heavy loads and it showed up. Otherwise I probably would have not noticed it. Anyway I just wanted all of you to keep an eye out on this one on your own rigs. Nissan is pretty good, they didn't even blink when they told me I needed a whole new rear end and that they would pick up the tab.

I had a new '06 rear assy installed in my '04 KC. Lasted a week with no towing. They pulled it out and put another new one in. Both had Dana manufacture dates of 9/05. I don't think Nissan, nor Dana know what the root cause of the clunking problem is.
Thanks, I've asked them to look at the date on it and let me know. The service guys said he thinks nissan resolved the issue and he hasn't had any come back within the past few months.

I think I am developing this problem as I have starting towing my boat more frequently, but I have the rear lift blocks, do you guys think the dealer will say something about that voiding warranty? Should I remove them prior to going in?
Thanks

I took mine out in anticipation of needing to go in. I have a mystery clunk occassionally.
The real question is how long will you be without the truck, and did they get you some sort of rental to hold you over?

Hawaiian, a full replacement for everyone crossed my mind for about as long as it took me to do the above calculation. It would cost NISSAN ONE BILLION DOLLARS to replace all 200,000 Titan rear differentials. This is charging the full $5000;now if they gave themselves a deep, deep discount to $2500 it would still be half a billion dollars!!
Now,if they decided that it was mainly a couple of gears, they could cut the cost by a bit,but the labor would still be about 10 hrs-or $850 minimum+ $600 worth of parts-say $350 Million .Lotta money! My guess is that if we ***** and ***** we might get an extended warranty on the rear diff- to at least 100,000 miles. My concern is that the failures of these diffs will just keep coming, and ones with relatively light use will fail at 80,000 miles or so-well out of warranty.Well, this survey should allow us to see that coming if it happens.Thanks.Charlie
