As I posted last week I took the truck in for a few things:
1. Mushy brakes, vibration in fronts and grabby/sticky rears.
2. Rear Differential getting hot and the paint literally baked off it.
3. Radio fade issue
and lastly an oil change.
Well, just got the word. The rear differential is toast and they are replacing it. Waiting on word of the availability of parts. Is it a QA problem with not enough fluid or??? I do not know. Will update as I recieve more word.
Another not so good day....

Considering all your going through, just take it in stride my BIG T. brother.
Things will turn around sure enough!
They didn't tell me. The first Q he asked me when they called was if we had been towing. I am actually in DC right now and dont expect a call back from them until tomm or the next day. Based on other posts, i would suspect a QA issue on the fluid level like others mentioned. 13,800miles on the truck.

Sorry to hear about your problems. I checked my rear differential last month and my fluid level was fine. But I decided to change the oil on it anyway and that went fine. Just in case you are not aware if it I noticed in your post you mentioned mushy brakes. If your dealer is planning a brake job there is a new TSB out now regarding brake judder.
Yep. Funny thing was is the 'service advisor' that took my truck in wasn't aware of it..But the Service Manager was (Standing there as I brought up these are known issues). The SM has been great with my truck to date and has my confidence. This other guy remains to be seen.
As far as the TSB and what they are doing I and the SM believe it to only be a temporary fix. We both agree there is more that will need be done there to fix it correctly and not patch the symptoms.
Hmmm, sorry about your problems California Titan;on the bright side,it looks like they are intending to fix it properly.
This is the third dead diff we have heard about in the Forum.
1)Titansurveyor at very,very low miles(about 1000 miles,I think).He was towing-of course-since that is why he bought the truck.Rear diff.
2)Yours,at very low-13800 miles.Rear diff
3)The fellow whose front diff literally exploded at 500 miles while he was trying to pull a stuck truck.
How many members does this forum have-several hundred maybe?Might be close to a 1% failure rate.Worse, those that don't tow might not fail early enough to be covered by warranty.
Hope Nissan can piece together where the failure was..Maybe it will be traced back to a new worker who was supposed to put X ounces in,and he was putting z ounces in for 2 weeks.I hope it isn't a shipment of defective parts-thousands of trucks could be involved.Still,I expect Nissan will make it right-too much riding on the big pickup market to do otherwise.Fingers crossed,Charlie

Never argue with idiots. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I hope that they can get you back on the road soon! When I was at the dealer for my oil change I asked them to check the diff - lube, and they would not!
They said that there was no need for it! I told them about people on the internet that said that there trucks had come not totally filled with gear lube, He just said dont take everything that you read as true!
It's hard to beleive that they are not filling them up to the right level! The only problems left that I'm having with my truck are the memory seats etc, prug valve and the Ac Expansion valve hissing sound that you hear comming from the Evaporator case. The New PCM body control computer that the dealer installed did fix my windows that were only going up about two inches stopping and going back down, they now are working fine but not my memory seats, pedals mirrors . I have to keep hitting button 1 or 2 on the memory switchs on the drivers door to make them move to where I had them set.
I am for sure going to check the Diff right away! And hope that everything is ok! Hope you get your truck back soon!
It was because of your issue I got down and looked at it underneath and someone elses
(cant remember who at the moment) that had low fluid.
Chris
JetForeman (n/k/a JetTech) posted about low fluid in the rear diff and recently posted about a whining rear diff, probably as a result of the low fluid level.

I looked under my truck this morning. My truck is 4 weeks old with 3300+. and between 55-65 there is a very slight whining sound coming from the drivetrain. the sound increases with speed, and dies off at about 65. Did you notice anything other than the baked off paint? All this talk about cooked diffs and messed up brakes has me worried.
